    Hagler vs Toney: Who Wins?

If prime Hagler fought prime MW Toney...

    Who would win?

    Why?

    Describe the fight.

(This thread was inspired by an article about Toney/McCallum I which said that Bob Arum awarded Toney the Marvelous Marvin Hagler MW trophy after the fight, at Hagler's request.)

    Draw. Sorry, I can't decide who'd win.

Hagler would butt **** Toney at middleweight or super middleweight.

That little mongoose wouldn't work against Hagler's ruthless body and head attack. He would wear toney out and stop him, or he would just pound a decision out on his ass.

Toney might recieve a gift....but I doubt it.

      Two different levels of fighters.

1977-78 power-hitting, counter-puncher version of Hagler grinds Toney away.

1985-87 face-first brawler version of Hagler gets counter-punched to bits and loses a decison to Toney.

Hagler can take Toney's punches. We know that.
Toney has shown some weakness vs certain fighters, i.e. smart bralwers and schooled boxers.

Thinking about this, I'd SLIGHTLY favor Hagler.

Totally disagree, Toney is the slickest infighter I've ever seen.

Toney is top, top level at his best, with no weight problems.

I base fighters on the level of opposition they beat.

You and I differ that way.

Toney in his best days at middleweight was not at his best form overall. He didn't have the knowledge, he didn't know the tricks of the game, his game was still a little raw.

Even so, Toney and Hagler would have battled till the end, both guys having their moments...but Marvins determination would be VERY clear in the late rounds of the fight and he'd take a decision. Toney's handspeed and natural skills would keep him very competitive throughout the fight.

Neither guy gets knocked out...this isn't a beat-down anyway you slice it. I know we'll get some people who hate Toney in here claiming that...but I could never see it happening.

Hagler UD Toney. This would be my all-time gavorite fight to watch (if it was ever possible) as these are two of my 3 favs ever.

Yeah I disagree. These are both elite elite fighters...two of my favorites in fact. I believe that MW Hagler would have beaten MW Toney in almost every scenario...but it would NOT be a raping.

EDIT: Toney MAY have beaten the later, more worn out form of Hagler...like Juy suggested.

Hagler never beat any natural middleweight anywhere near the level of a Michael Nunn or a Mike McCallum. Even Reggie Johnson I'd rate over most natural middleweights Hagler came up against. Toney fought in an awesome era of middleweight's and super-middleweight's, the standard was generally very high and it was an incredibly deep era of middleweight talent.
