Canelo vs. Lara: Post Fight Discussion Thread

People call Canelo Alvarez a hype job because he comes from a country that not only loves boxing, but loves to support it's fighters. However, He didn't get hype because he was a redhead, or irish looking. Despite popular belief there are plenty of white Mexicans in Mexico. Many whom I'm sure take up boxing but don't get attention because they're no good. Case in point Alvarez' brothers. Canelo got hype because he had talent, talent that stood out in a country that is full of talent. Having Cinnamon hair was just a bonus for his promoters.

If anything I feel Erislandy Lara is an NSB hyped fighter. He's good, but not the p4p fighter people here are making him out to be. P4p fighters don't struggled to beat C level opposition. Could you imagine what people would have said if it was Canelo who struggled to beat Molina, Angulo or Martirosyan? Could you imagine what people would say if Canelo had gone 10 rounds to a decision with Freddie Hernandez? The same Freddie Hernandez who was KO'd by Berto in 1 round and TKO'd by Delvin in 8?

Canelo ko 's the overrated cuban

I'm saying Golden Boy likes the idea that Lara is the feared boogeyman and they can sell the fight to us as a very tough fight. And on paper it would appear so.

What I am also saying is that Golden Boy is completely confident that Canelo will come out victorious. They have no financial backing in Lara, they were goin to feed him to Fox Sports 1 before Canelo demanded to fight him.

Golden Boy will do everything in their power to make sure this goes according to plan.

Don't forget, this is Canelo's world. Lara is just a little prop in Canelo's world.

Lara would have to hand Canelo his ass, and Buster Douglas him to win this fight.

And suppose he does win, then what? business just took a huge hit over at Golden Boy.

It's not like Lara is next to emerge as their golden boy, he's 30 years old and has no star value. He fought Paul Williams and dominated him and nobody outside of hardcore fans gives a flying ****.

That's what I'm trying to tell you.

So Golden Boy has this already planned? Lara has no chance? That's not to say Canelo is not fair play.

I get what your saying it could've been explained a lot easier though. Basically GB believes Canelo will beat Lara based on what they perceive as superior skill set,and will make sure to have assistance (judges,ref) if Lara were to perform above their expectations in order to insure their investment.

I think you're being naive with this assumption. Lara is as probable of wining this fight as Canelo. Remember it was Canelo who pushed for this fight not the other way around. It doesn't benefit them at all since casuals don't even know who Lara is.

I'm not arguing that Cuban fighters are bad for the sport. Although I wish they'd understand that professional fighters need to take a little more risk, and entertain rather than have a win at all cost, even if it's tedious mentality.

It's hard to believe that Canelo has a 3 inch reach advantage over Lara, whether or not he can use it to his advantage remains to be seen. They both share common opponents in Trout and Angulo, difference being that Lara inflicted more damage in his fights than Canelo did.

Lara arguably fought the tougher Angulo and apart from the two knockdowns he still managed to box his ears off to a controversial TKO win. Trout was taking Canelo to school up until the knockdown but was completely shutout by Lara. With that being said, I'm going with the upset.
