There is still a case for boxing to be as, if not more dangerous because of the focus on head shots as opposed to what can be done in the cage.

I love boxing, grew up watching it. But I can't deny the excitement MMA has injected into combat sports as a whole...

Its just a compilation made by somebody of last years best knockouts. Quite brutal to be honest. Just look at some of those icings. Makes me wonder, how is it that just now studies are coming out saying MMA might be more brutal. Its like, jeez. Ya think? I thought that was the case for years. Scientists are slow. The punches alone look more trauma inducing than boxing. They are using those little azz gloves going HAM on each other. These guys have no chins either. They step in there with worse chins than Amir Khan using all kinds of spinning **** and force generating techniques. And on the ground is where they REALLY get ****ed up. Its WAYY more brutal than boxing imo. I dont know how you can say thats not the case and boxings worse, because its not.
I clicked on the link and saw the very first "knockout" happening by way of soft jab and immediately closed the tab.

You obviously have never boxed or done any martial art have you?

MMA fighters train in boxing AND kickboxing among other disciplines and do have conditioning. Its not the 90s where one guy knows just one discipline.

Plus what the hell does conditioned to take flush shots even mean? The whole point is to duck them. If you are vulnerable then that's that. Ask the guy in my avatar.

Smaller gloves ARE the reason and the fact their defense is scattered given they have to defend against punches, kicks and take downs, so its unexpected. Hence, so many KOs.

            Stop embarrassing yourself man.

May as well start talking about other sports like golf, tennis, hockey, etc...THIS IS BOXING. Guys who appreciate the art of boxing have embraced the sport because fans like the idea of counters, setting up punches with footwork, feignts, etc....If you wanna talk MMA-why do it on a boxing forum? In fact, why don't you go on a hockey forum and talk about how brutal mma is to hockey?????
The truth is that fans of boxing like the sport for what it is...most boxing fans don't wanna see some poorly conditioned guy maul it out on the ground and look at the clock to see how much time is left before huffing into the next round.
Though it is another combat sport-it is COMPLETELY separate from boxing and will delivery very little of what boxing fans want. The only thing one can appreciate is some of the brutality, but there is a LOT of poor/crude technique with punches...which is something a boxing fan appreciates-footwork, technique, and effective technical striking.

Great post....now boxing is waiting for the MMA superstars to be men and take the boxing challenge to see how far they get.Truth is, the only real known figure is Kimbo-and he almost got sparked out by some fat out of shape bum who just put on gloves!

Everybody keeps making these glove references....

Something that needs to be clear: Boxing gloves are meant to protect the hands of the boxer not the body of the other fighter. Gloves aren't to protect the other fighter.

Gloves were created because boxers hit with such a hard impact that they were breaking hands. Gloves were used so boxers would punch more often. MMA fighters do not punch as hard as boxers.... their gloves are created for grabbing and grappling each other more than hitting (or the knuckles would be wrapped better)... they don't hit as hard.

Gloves aren't that soft guys, it's not like it takes all the impact out of punches, otherwise that ridiculous power wouldn't exist because the impact would be softened so much. Hand wraps are used to help protect both your hands and wrists.

If an MMA fighter tries to step in the ring and box a boxer.... he'll end up with a broken jaw and embarrassing loss.

You might be on to something here. How many have legit, legit striking training?

Go tell Oscar Gonzalez that he got pillow punched. Last I checked, three people have died from MMA fighting since 2001, while someone in boxing dies every month. And the anti-MMA sentiment that you receive stems from Dana White bashing boxing as a way to promote his lame sport. He's as classless as the whole lot of bar brawlers that he throws into a cage for entertainment. As for me, I've got better things to spend my money on than two dudes wiping their nuts on each others faces.
