I'm just glad HBO is taking back control. It's laughable to see networks being controlled by promoters. I mean, is this how powerful promoters are nowadays? They can dictate the fights they want? Not the networks? Unbelievable.Comment

Honestly I think the Hopkins fight would be slightly more lucrative.. His brand is much bigger than kovolev..
When it comes to the general public, they don't know what the best fights are to make, but they do know a guy like Hopkins who has been around forever and been in a bunch of big PPv fights
Similar to how ggg-serg is the best fight at mw, but cotto the most lucrative
The most lucrative option would be Kovalev and then HopkinsComment

Promoter Yvon Michel has issued a statement regarding the decision made by his company GYM, and WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, to take the May 24th clash with Andrzej Fonfara to Showtime. Stevenson was showcased several times by HBO in 2013. The network had hoped to match him in a unification with WBO champion Sergey Kovalev in 2014. Now Stevenson may be heading in another direction with his Showtime debut in May.

A Hopkins fight in Canada would actually be more lucrative for Stevenson I think. B-Hop has more name recognition and a history of higher television ratings than Kovalev.
It depends on HBO though. If they open their pocketbook a little more they can offer a very atractive deal. But it looks like they want to get this fight for as cheap as they can.Comment

Boxing is pathetic! I used to love the sport before the Top Rank-HBO vs Golden Boy-Showtime stuff, but this is turning me away more and more. HBO giving us very poor BAD cards for the past year and "big" fights that nobody asks for. Showtime is just the Paulie Malignaggi sweepstakes and a bunch of decent fighters that bring no excitement to the sport.Last edited by ManOnTheMoon; 03-26-2014, 10:41 AM.Comment

Expect he's not fighting Hopkins, he's fighting Fonfara. Stevenson got a pass for Fonfara because he said he would fight Kovalev next. Why exactly would he fight Fonfara instead of Kovalev, who would certainly be the more the more lucrative option?
The most lucrative option would be Kovalev and then Hopkins
And Hopkins would be a bigger fight,, the kovolev is the better fight, but Hopkins is a known entity to the casual fans, and espn would love covering a story about a 50 year trying to become lineal champ vs the big punching Adonis
Kovolev-Adonis is just like Danny-Lucas, great for the diehard fans but will get zero mainstream coverageComment
