Add to this hbo have a bigger budget so they can pay for these matchups.
Now Stevenson nuthuggers, I'm asking you , was it really a good financial move?

In fact looking at the way th s#it with Stevenson has gone down seems to me it's pretty obvious Duva did the right thing for Kovalev.
As has been pointed out however there has been some pretty canny maneuvering by Haymon and SHO - 7 or 8 months ago they had just 1 belt with BHop at LHW and HBO ruled the roost, now they've got Shumenov and Stevenson, that's 3 of the belts and Kovalev can be safely sidelined cos 'he hasn't fought anyone' (and with Haymon having also signed Sad Chad, there is no-one for Kovalev to fight so he can be ignored pretty much indefinitely).
Sucks as a boxing fan though - I guess unless Kovalev is willing to jump ship too one of the most exciting match-ups of 2014 ain't gonna happen.
Hell, just cos of this s#it I'm suddenly hoping (against hope I know) that Fonfara can pull the upset. I'd laugh my ass off.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 03-26-2014, 03:27 AM.

Bad move from Stevenson!
He should fight Kovalev whilst he is still young, If he waits around he will have to face him sooner or later or to dump the belts and be shown up as a fool plus he will be older by then...
37yos for his fighting style is definitely not a good thing, reflexes start to go soon I can't see him remaining at his prime into his 40s.

To me this has got to top the many of ducks of history. He took full advantage of the cold war of boxing and he signed with a shady yet smart 'adviser' as a fire exit from the **** storm Kovalev would've brought him.
But hey at age 36 his health comes first........................

This duck changed the way ducking will take place in the future. I think this duck needs a new name because of how it revolutionized boxing. I call it "strategic avoidance".
It all started last year. Stevenson beat Dawson and was the new champ. But Kovalev was coming on like a monster. He beat Cleverly and Campillo.
At first, Stevenson tried the classic duck line "Kovalev needs to build his name up and beat more champions first"
Nobody bought into it.
Next he tried the new era duck line "the fans want to see Froch and Hopkins"
Nobody bought into it.
At this stage, he realized classic duck methods could not save him. So this guy ran to Alt Haymon., and used the cold war to strategically avoid a fighter he wanted no part of.
This strategic avoidance is a 10/10 and the first of its kind.
Yet I find myself crying while laughing. The network and promotional feuds have made it so easy for fighters to duck fighters and have a defendable excuse for it.
