Will Pacquiao's Legacy Supercede Duran?

Not even ****ing close. Duran started his career @ 118lbs. and ended it @ 175...and was still winning at that weight.
Pac has done very well for himself, but he's nowhere near Duran's level as far as accomplishments. Nobody will ever do what Duran was able to do in the ring in terms of jumping weight classes and beating great fighters.Comment

It's not even the weight, it is the comp. Does anyone know who Duran beat and lost to? I mean he looked great even when he lost with the exception of the Hagler and Leonard II losses lol. Duran is a legend. I love PAc as a fighter, but he would have to do the impossible to reach Duran's stature. If PAc beat Cotto and PAv I'd almost be sold lol.Comment

if Pacquiao continues to climb the way he has been, there is no denying he will have a better resume than the great Roberto Duran. it's truly unbelievable, but I'm glad I voted the way I did back when this thread was created.Comment

Dear Lord! Is this really being discussed?
Let us answer this one question. Can you see Pacquiao beating Mayweather? Because that's what Duran did. He beat the Mayweather of his time in Leonard after jumping up two weights to fight the P4P champ who was five years younger and in his absolute prime at his prime weight! Of course, after that he also went on to beat the best champions in every division he was in as well as beating fighters who would be considered the best pound for pound today at lightweight.
If Pacquiao somehow rules every division he is in for the next ten or so years and becomes a top five P4P champ on the majority of 'experts' lists then he will have gotten close. As it stands now, and the possible fights he will have in the future, no. No chance.Last edited by BennyST; 07-20-2008, 01:59 AM.Comment

this is such an incredibly ****** question! pacquiao has never been, is not now and will never be in roberto duran's league. this is getting ridiculous already. people, pacquiao stopped david diaz at lightweight!!!!!!!!! in fact, pacquiao will never be in the league of such greats as roberto duran, julio cesar chavez, salvador sanchez, alexis arguello, wilfredo gomez, azumah nelson and danny little red lopez amongst others!
again, pacquiao happened to come at the right time when morales was getting old and in many people's minds marquez has beaten him twice already.
even a shopworn, weight weakened, morales managed to give pacquiao a nice little boxing lesson before he became totally shot!Comment
