Here's a look at the PPV numbers of some superstars in their first PPV headliner:
Oscar De La Hoya vs. Rafael Ruelas - 330,000 PPVs
Floyd Mayweather vs. Arturo Gatti - 340,000 PPVs
Manny Pacquiao vs. Erik Morales - 350,000 PPVs
And now
Canelo vs. Alfredo Angulo - 350,000 PPVs
I think the most impressive are Canelo and De La Hoya because their opponents weren't very popular. Manny had Erik Morales who was known for his trilogy with Marco Antonio Barrera and Floyd had Arturo Gatti who was known for his trilogy with Micky Ward and his 1998 F.O.T.Y. with Ivan Robinson.
What was Rafael Ruelas known for? And what was Alfredo Angulo known for?Comment

How many sales did the Mayweather vs Guerrero fight do? Just saying there's a reason why he only fights twice a year. And it so happens to be for the most part against Mexican fighters on Mexican holidays. He picks quality fighters with fan friendly styles who have good momentum behind them. Not necessarily the best guy out there. If he where about that he'd of fought Lara at 154lbs instead of Cotto. But Lara has no fan base therefore he has nothing to offer on the PPV end. The Mayweather vs Alexander fight never happened for the same reason that nobody would pay to see that (not that alexander was the best contender on the div.) Mayweather Jr. is a business man first and secondly a GREAT fighter. After all Boxing it is a business.Comment

[QUOTE=ox805er;14326081]wouldn't expect any less from my fellow Mexican fans!! I bet if you put two Mexican taxi drivers that hate each other from Tijuana on PPV they'd sell.. Still good for Canelo..[/QUOTE
Not really. Kind of a boring fightComment

Gatti was the headliner in Gatti-Mayweather. Mayweather had to beg for that fight. Here's a look at the PPV numbers of some superstars in their first PPV headliner:
Oscar De La Hoya vs. Rafael Ruelas - 330,000 PPVs
Floyd Mayweather vs. Arturo Gatti - 340,000 PPVs

Floyd's first headliner was Judah. 375KComment

So does that mean if Terrence Crawford fought Ricky Burns on May 3rd,the PPV numbers would be through the roof?Floyd fought Hatton in December of 07 and Floyd fought Guerrero on May 3rd or 4th of 2013.But the Hatton fight did better then the Guerrero fight,so that disputes your lame argument.
yeah, i kinda already knew the hatton fight did better than the guerrero fight, thanks.Comment

Floyd fan logic = Mayweather vs. Canelo did 2.2 million PPVs, Canelo vs. Angulo did 350,000 PPVs, so subtract 350,000 from 2.2 million and Floyd is responsible for 1,850,000 PPV buys.
350,000 is a GREAT number for Canelo. Looks like we have our next PPV star when Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto, and Marquez are gone within the next two years.
Who is Canelo's competition? Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.? Tim Bradley,
?
according to some people here canelos competition is lara, and rigo, lmfao....Comment

if you believe either of those fighters were responsible for the Mayweather-Hatton ppv numbers, you're just flat out ******.dude, you tell me how many ppvs events floyd has fought in the cinco de mayo or sep weekend and compare them with the 2 that you mentioned. i also belive at the time a young jeff lacy and ponce deleon were on the undercard of the hatton fight. ask floyd why he went on and booked for may 3rd?lmfao....Last edited by joseph5620; 03-14-2014, 07:41 PM.Comment
