Top Rank has been going about it the wrong way imo, they keep putting him on the east coast where honestly nobody gives a shit about him. It's actually hurt his development as a draw.
They put the fight where they have the financial backing. It's smart to try and build a fan base outside of Cali where everyone already knows him.

They do have leverage but Mikey and his team are acting butt hurt that Gamboa is the only fight HBO wants to give them and only a certain amount of $$$.

You can always trust Steve Kim to say exactly what Arum is thinking.
It's about making money, I am just shocked as to how you guys still don't get it. It's truly mind boggling and amazing to me, do you realize the amount of money it takes to put on one of these shows? With no guarantee return? That's a scary business endeavor.

Check out 3:10 of this video. Does Robert really expect $4-5 million dollars for the Gamboa fight?
Robert Garcia was ***in with 50 cent by bringing up the 4-5 million dollars number. Again, boxing negotiations don't happen over twitter. Mikey has a manger and a promoter, they are the one's who decide who and for how much he will fight. Robert Garcia has ZERO say so in how much money Mikey makes. He's a trainer, not a manager.

He had his fair share of gimme fights on HBO, Salido is his best win and Burgos is Solid. Rocky is ok but he's not really impressive imo. I think he should stay at 130 and unify the titles.

BTW I never said the guy ******, I've said he's boring but never that he's crap.
Who hasn't? You are as good as your opposition. Now all of a sudden Salido, Martinez and Burgos aren't really worth mentioning and we are giving Mikey little credit for them? lol

Come on man, so what he's fought some weaker opposition, every boxer in the world has. It's the way they build you up, but they threw him in there with 3 very good, tough, experienced fighters, who are world champs mind you and he's destroyed them.

This conversation is so frustrating. I wish fans were more level headed and less bias. Put yourself in the position of the promoters and you will understand how things go down better.

Now diva's protected fighters and hype jobs is the new stereotype of this generation . I guess is an upgrade from punching bag, so you're welcome.
These overprotected fans will be so happy if not another Cuban leave the Island, bunch of hypocrites...

Bro...he said, "Salido's his best win; Burgos is solid; and Rocky's okay." I'd say those are fair statements, and qualifies as giving Mikey credit. Do we really need to say much more about those guys? What you're saying about building fighters up is, of course, true as well. It's the way things have always been, and I have no problem with it.

Funny that Gamboa's a "nobody," but HBO won't buy a Mikey fight without him as the opponent. lol Explain that one, Bob.

            • Damn.

So its no longer the Mexican Vs Puerto Rican war, seems like Cuban fighters scare the **** out of some Mexican fighters.

First it was Lara and Canelo and now it's Mikey and Gamboa.

              • Idk why HBO puts up with this guy like they do. HBO is insisting on Gamboa, telling them "no" to this guy and that guy. Yet, Bob says he'll take his fighter elsewhere, again.. lol

Hell, they're riding GGG, they got Adonis and Kovalev, Ward and maybe a few more guys worth noting so why not go another direction and start declining more of this guy's fights?

He tried to downplay those wins. We will see what Mikey is made of because I think Arum has much bigger fights in mind than Gamboa to be honest.

I think the fighter we are making bigger than what he is, is Gamboa.

Let's be honest, Rocky Martinez was a paper champion who had arguably lost his last three fights (including a gift against Burgos).

Mikey deserves credit for Burgos and Salido (even though the ending left a bad taste in boxing fans' mouth).

                      Two things:
                      1. these guys are not on Gamboa's level
                      2. Mikey and Gamboa have more or less the same resume in term of quality.
