Just watched Floyd - Augustus again...

    (Long time lurker, seldom poster)

Not sure if this is deserving of a new thread. However, Floyd always states in interviews that Emanuel Augustus is his toughest fight to date. Couldn't help but notice just how similar Augustus' fighting style is to that of Maidana.

I can't fathom whether this is a good or bad thing as Augustus did land a few (just a few!) decent shots on a young-ish Floyd.

Got me thinking as a Floyd fan he may be a little vulnerable to a whole lotta pressure

I just don't see how you think Maidana and Augustus are similar. Maidana is more like a much slower less skilled Hatton.

nah. Floyd still beat him down. He kinda threw his d out the window some in that fight but most of all it was 14 years ago. He was great then but even 10x a better figher now. Much more smarter, stronger, experinced

Naw he had an interview with steve farhood this year saying augustus was. What we may consider hard may not be cosidered hard for someone actually in the fight. If you have been in the ring you would know this.

Whats harder than fighting a guy who keeps throwing shots while taking your best and also rolling shots, ducking shots, countering you. Mayweather hit Augustus with 3,4,5 even a 6 punch combo in the fight and he smiled at him. This was at a time when mayweather had kayo ratio of 70%+
Floyd actually looked winded, took some shots, and even though he was the clear winner had to work much harder than he did for Cotto.

In the Cotto fight, he dictated most the fight. Everything he tried except slip or parry some jabs worked....he nullified his body attack, took away the left hook, even eventually took away the jab with his own and counters.

I agree a lot with what you're saying considering in floyd's very next fight we see him knockdown diego five times! Just shows Augustus was a tough fight.
