Floyd contradicted himself again. He stated recently that Augustus was his toughest fight, but after the Cotto fight he said Cotto was his toughest fight. Maybe he just forgot about the Cotto fight, or was just trying to validate the Cotto fight.

Yes and on multiple occasions since he's cited Cotto as being his toughest opponent. It's Floyd frickin' Mayweather. He does that alot.

I just don't see how you think Maidana and Augustus are similar. Maidana is more like a much slower less skilled Hatton.

Just the approach i see Maidana adopting a lot of forward action, walking into Floyd's counters and hoping to land clean. Swinging away.

nah. Floyd still beat him down. He kinda threw his d out the window some in that fight but most of all it was 14 years ago. He was great then but even 10x a better figher now. Much more smarter, stronger, experinced
