Obviously there is some shady stuff on whether he's a manager or personal advisor, since it's illegal for a manager to put two of their fighters against each other and get paid from both (The Ali Act).
Here is the Ali Act document .....

In what way is the act being violated, if a Manager\Adviser allows two of his clients to compete against each other for a purse?

From Section 17: Conflicts of interests (b) Firewall between Promoters and Managers.

        (1) In General. ---It is unlawful for ---
        A) a promoter to have a direct or indirect financial interest in the management of a boxer; or
        B) a manager----
        (i) to have a direct or indirect financial interest in the promotion of a boxer; or
(ii) to be employed by or receive compensation or other benefits from a promoter, except for amounts received as consideration under the manager’s contract with the boxer.

He's referred to as an adviser, which is a smart way to avoid having to be licensed by an athletic commission and to skirt the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act. It's illegal in the U.S. to serve as a promoter and a manager, though Haymon does both.

Dawson is finished as a top guy
he never impressed anybody to begin with
Ward smashed him and Stevenson did him even worse
who even cares about what Dawson does next?
just hope somebody else KO's him or beats him savagely
throw him in with Kovalev, that would be great

They have definitely changed characterizations used to identify Haymon, because back when Paul Williams was active, it was stated that since he and certain other fighter's were represented by Haymon, they couldn't fight.

I'm guessing that you are absolutely correct, that Haymon is acting as a Manager behind the scenes, but publicly being classified as an adviser.

1st Al Haymon is not a boxing guy, he does business differently. He made his $ by being the biggest concert promoter- he used to do the budweiser super fest tours etc.. he used to invest floyds $ in alot of his shows so they became very good friends because Haymon is a harvard grad with integrity - He had floyd invest in one of 50 cents tours this is how floyd and fiddy became very close at one point. You cannot compare him to the street opportunist Don King - Haymon just bailed Tarver out of jail and paid off his ******** debt, Tarver is 45 YEARS old and is on his down slide so it was not a business move, this is why everyone gets down with Haymon - he gets you paid more, he takes care of his fighters - Period -

A "manager" has a fiduciary duty to the fighters he represents. Therefore, it is impossible for a manager to adequately represent BOTH sides of a fight, since technically every dollar negotiated for "Fighter A" comes at the expense of "Fighter B" and vice versa.......

Yes I remember that. There was a time when Haymon fighters would NEVER fight each other. There were even a lot of threada about this on this forum. It was common to hear things like "Floyd can't fight Williams cus they're both with Al Haymon", etc. Recently, maybe two years ago or so, that all changed. Now it seems to be the norm.

The two top dogs in boxing are black..... First there's Floyd running the sport and now Al running the business part, can't get any better. Now if only Rob Arum would just take his zza overseas and promote the blind people of the Philippines and their loyal followers the American boxing fans will have a sport to be proud of.Hopefully when that happens ole Rob will take Jim, Max, Larry, Herald, Julie as well as Teddy with him.... Man if that happen the sport of boxing would be number one in the world............
