Does anyone else feel like a lonely boxing nerd?

Most of my friends and family are football, basketball and baseball fans. I'm casual on these sports but hardcore on boxing.

I have to come to this site to discuss 90 percent of the boxing that takes place today. My acquaintances don't know these fighters and if you try and have a discussion or God forbid a debate....I feel like a sage talking to a child. Sometimes the "Big fights" come up and everyone starts talking about Floyd, Pac,Cotto.....uhhh I guess that's pretty much it...and again , they pretty much don't know what the hell their talking about. It's a lonely boxing fans world out there.
Does anyone else feel like this?
Are they're some lucky guys out there whose friends know all about the boxing world.?....it's just a shame to me that these warriors who stand alone and not on a team , don't get more play..smh

I have always been the only one out of my friends that follows boxing. A lot of them like it and will watch the big fights (and sometimes innocently come out with some really ****** 'casual fan' type of comments that I can laugh at!) but it has always been just me who is in the know about it and follows it.

My brother is into it, but that is mainly coz I tell him the latest stuff from time to time. It's a shame it isn't a mainstream sport anymore, it seems to me that boxing is one of those sports that most people think is 'ok' rather than be a fan of it...

I agree it should be mainstream. It's harder to stand alone in a ring and go to war or utilize the sweet science.

I still talk with a guy I sparred with when I was 11!
Whenever I see him, which isn't often, we go all in- it's like we both have been on deserted islands and talk about every single fight for the next 3 months.

But it's true. Most people are pretty much amateurs. I don't ever wanna be a jerk to people that show excitement but some of the things they say drive me crazy.

A lot of times I prefer to watch boxing home alone for full enjoyment.

So yeah I feel like that sometimes. The cure is going to the fights where you will find no shortage of people that actually know wtf they are talking about.

Luckily I got a lot of people to talk about boxing with (I'm Mexican-American), but it's mostly the bigger names/fights. I've gotten my dad, brother, and a friend pretty into it but I have to keep them updated. I'm alone when it comes to lesser known and obscure names and fights so I come here to get my fix. Also, I don't know if you box yourself but if you joined a boxing gym, even just to stay in shape, you would meet a ton of people to discuss the sport with, probably quite a few who would school you and are more knowledgeable.

I think one of the most satisfying times a casual fan learned the hard way was this incident. ...
I went to a Pinoy owned business around after Pac vs Jmm 1 or 2, the Pinoy owner had newspaper clippings from Philippines and a bunch of Pac clippings on his wall. I figured he knew boxing, after a lil small talk I asked what he felt about JMM, he responded "who?"... Thought he was joking but he really didn't know. He followed with Pac is best anyway and also threw a Floyd is scared comment. I left. A week after Pac got ktfo I happened to return. I asked the guy if he now knows who JMM is? Lmao...he was bothered and quickly changed the subject.
