The reason he can land clean on some guys and not put them to sleep is because a lot of the time he is throwing from off balance and arm punches in order to land and time his shots. It makes up for his speed deficiency, but obviously not the same power behind some of those, and he still hurts people with them.

You look at how people react to his straight right when his feet are under him and that tells yu everything. Ortiz dropped like a bag of rocks, Lopez was mentally stunned and in disbelief, and Karass went through the ropes.

Canelo has **** power. Literally his only claim to power is a shot to **** Baldomir. He hasn't been able to hurt a lot of smaller weight guys. Mosley never carried his power up to WW, and nothing has shown us Ortiz did either. Maidana has shown his power carried up.
That was a process of breaking Karass down, before that even the commentators were questioning whether Maidana's power carried over. Karass took clean shots from Maidana for most of the fight and didn't go anywhere. Mayweather has fully adjusted to '47, Lopez and Broner didn't, that's the difference here. I'm a realist, maybe some would try to over hype Maidana but the fact is he offers nothing new.

I'm simply commenting on his power. So basically I don't know WTF you are talking about.

        Mosley.. comparable at this point.
        Cotto - comparable
        canelo- probably
        Oscar.. nah was passed prime
Ortiz- maidana faced a very powerful ortiz. But here lately, against lopez, callazo, he didnt look so powerful.

Maidana packs a whallop but its his mentality that is the game changer. The man wont quit. He's a bulldog...he will walk through shots. He wont try to outbox or out twitch mayweather. Now let me break those fighters down on what they lacked.

Mosley- landed big in the 2nd but then settled into a war of nerves with mayweather, trying to out twitch arguably the best twitch reaction fighter in the sport.

Cotto... id have to say him being stopped before made him less able to walk through mayweather which made him too defensive to put alot of hurt on mayweather.

Canelo- didnt fight the rough physical fight he should have.. didnt impose his size and tried to outbox one of the best boxers of this modern era.

Oscar- wasnt rough enough in the clinch. He contented himself with scoring pitty pat shots to the body while clinching instead of turning in the clinch and really trying to pivot and corkscrew a shot in the clinch with leverage to try to hurt Floyd.

        Ortiz- Very mentally weak

now he may not have been able to do all these things 5 years ago... but based on recent footage maidana can, not try to out twitch floyd and just fire and try to make it a dog fight, has never been stopped so he has the mentality to walk through Floyd to do damage. He will have the aggressive mentality to impose his body and will on floyd..he can leverage a "corkscrew shot" from the clinch and make the clinch a rough place for Floyd... and he is very mentally strong.

These are all things he can do. The answer isnt to win on points, thats floyds world.. the answer is to hurt Floyd. Who better to do that than current Maidana?

            Very good post.

Canelo's and Guerrero's (he had no chane either way) gameplan was baffling to me. Even more so that Canelo never switched it up.

Maidana isn't going to quit. The mentality and tactics of a fighter definitely play on top of a guys assets like power. Maidana has that.

So then don't ignore the fact that Lopez, Broner weren't fully adjusted to the weight or the fact that Karass took clean shots without backing away. It all coincides with rating his power, don't be an idiot.

maidana let alexander hug him for ten straight rounds. i don't see the clinch being a place where maidana will do anything at all.

Note throughout my whole post I said things like "based on recent footage" and "current Maidana"

He has clearly learned from Devon. Compare his approach to the clinch in the Devon fight with his approach to the clinch in the Broner fight.

If you are going to be stuck in the past with obsolete observations, I cant have a conversation with you.

Lets agree to disagree because I strongly feel that I'm right here but lets scratch all this momentarily, those guys have better technique then Maidana, those guys are physically stronger as well, so where the fuck will his power factor in exactly?
