  • Comments Thread For: Hopkins-Shumenov Set Down For April 19 on Showtime

According to WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov, his Showtime televised unification with IBF champion Bernard Hopkins has a finalized date of April 19th. Although the fight was reportedly going to happen in Texas or the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the match is going to headline a card at the D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C. Hopkins (54-6-2, 32 KOs) wants to unify all of the titles in his division, with Shumenov (14-1, 9 KOs) being his first step. Shumenov recently signed on with adviser Al Haymon and also reached an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions.

Wanna make a friendly wager of 1,000,000? I feel like Shumenov can pull off the upset

... Mehhh... another easy fight for Hopkins. Shumenov is strong but too robotic for his craftiness.

Should Hopkins get past Shumenov and Stevenson get past Kovalev, they will fight early next year. Stevenson can punch but Hopkins can fight and his ring IQ is well above Stevenson's. I'll pick Hopkins to win against Stevenson or Kovalev due to ring IQ. What will beat Hopkins is Father Time or someone with great foot and hand speed. Nothing else.
