This goes for Ward as well -- he called GGG but he never said how much he would "pay" for that fight.

All Stevenson (or BHop) need to do is keep fighting the occasional mando, sit on the belts and Kovalevs career basically goes nowhere. Eventually, he's probably forced up to cruiser.

How's Kovalev gonna become a superstar fighting the Cedric Agnews of the world - whilst the 3 belt Unified champion gets the (cherry)pick of any new talent that might arise?

I postulated that this might kinda been the strategy when Shumenov went into the Haymon/GBP fold but then it seemed less likely when the HBO deal came up.
Kovalev can fight anyone else in the world whose name is not Stevenson. Eventually even the variest fool will no longer recognize Stevenson as the champion. Kovalev becomes de facto champion.

No. Ward's wiffs won't hurt a bit. I bet Ward is dreading having to lock in with Kovalev though!

              Nice try!

... "Kovalev can fight anyone else in the world whose name is not Stevenson."

... Namely who he can fight? Do you have a name of one of those willing to fight him? (tomato cans, of course)...

That, and Stevenson can always leave the division to get away from Kovalev's power.

What else is he to do if Stevenson won't battle him? And, if he does fight Stevenson and win, everyone else in the division will be his opponents anyway.

I'd be surprised if Kovalev won more than a couple rounds against Ward.

Yeah... Ward's so "slick" that he would take Frankenstein anytime...
