I don't think anyone is saying Kovalev doesn't "deserve" the fight. At least I'm not. I think most people feel he and Stevenson are the best two light heavys in the world. I'm simply saying that Stevenson has better options. Well, at least one better option.

Kovalev is begging almost like Khan for the fight. He knows he can't sell tickets and he can't fight Shumenov or Bhop so if Stevenson doesn't fight him, so he will be screwed fighting lesser names for no money that he is currently making on HBO. Stevenson made a smart move, HBO has been under paying him compared to what they used to pay and what they pay TR fighters. I think he will fight 5/24 against Fonfara, September Kovalev and then the 3rd fight will be the winner of Bhop/Shumenov. However, I do believe a caveat will be thrown in there, that he could fight the winner of Bhop/Shumenov before the Kovalev fight with the Kovalev fight being the 3rd fight. Stevenson will get paid above what he would have without Haymon. Kovalev will get peanuts and he and his promoter know this and really have no option because Haymon now has links to 3 of the 4 champs and no way would he sign Kovalev who is a known racist against African Americans. Just my opinion. But I hope the unifications happen somehow and this year.
