I am not counting Cotto out, I actually respect him a lot.
But Martinez had a bad knee way before his fight against Chavez, and he broke his left hand in the 4th round of that fight too. And even with all those injuries he toyed with Chavez for 11 rounds, and in the end he got too confident and made a mistake,... and Junior couldn´t capitalize it because he was high or whatever, even when he was like 20 pounds heavier than Martinez.
Martinez in his prime was a beast, quick, and with incredible reflexes and with a very high ring IQ. And he is the bigger, more powerful man. I have no doubts in my mind that if the two of them were in their primes Martinez would have won easily.
But now i don´t know, it´s 50/50 fight for me right now.
What´s about that silly catchweight at 159? It doesn´t take anything away from Martinez and a lot of people are gonna use it to give less credit to Cotto. Very ****** decision from Team Cotto.Last edited by Stark777; 02-20-2014, 03:51 PM.

I like both of these fighters a great deal and it's cool to see them on the big stage but.. Cotto is in a MUST win situation against someone who is (even at 75-ish percent) expected to crush him. Why add a catchweight and devalue an uphill battle if you DO win is the point. Why demand the champion treatment if you're not considered a worthy challenger to many? Honestly if Cotto loses does he even have a credible career as a relatively top fighter anymore? And if he gets crushed what does that for his health? I wish both of these guys the best and hope neither suffers serious damage...but if Martinez is anywhere near his old self it's kind of a worrying fight for my dude Cotto. I just hope it's not brutal for either. Sergio is a good dude and theyve both given a lot to the sport. *I* personally wouldnt be mad at any result so long as neither is robbed.Last edited by NearHypnos; 02-20-2014, 04:05 PM.
