Who was more impressive during his peak? Tyson or Floyd?

The OP said peak not career. Tyson's peak was spinx and a couple of years leading up to it where he destroyed the division. The Spinx performance itself was a more impressive performance than any ONE of floyd's fights. I said floyd has the better career. But that's not what the thread was asking. You obviously weren't watching boxing when spinx was around ... genuine ATG, Tyson destroyed him in one round. But whatever, ignore what the OP was asking i.e. 'PEAK' - that short couple of years where Tyson was awesome and just keep going on about whole career ... where I've already said floyd wins.

career = floyd

I'm aware of what the OP asked. I was responding to what I quoted, namely that Floyd's career and Tyson's are comparable because both have a lot of good wins but few great wins. I'm not sure we can conclude that peak Tyson>peak Floyd either. He beat Spinks who was a great fighter but context is needed here. Spinks was a former LHW. He was a top heavy as indicated by his wins over Holmes but Holmes didn't have the power Tyson had. The fact it that Tyson just beat Spinks on power because of his LHW chin. I don't think that that is necessarily more impressive than Floyd who didn't have as much power but was certainly more skilful in his peak.

Mike was a monster. Possibly the most intimidating fight in the recent past. Though Floyd showed great skill, Tysons showed that and killed instinct.

are you people insane? Ive never seen a thread so wrong and nearly everyone is agreeing with it. Only one guy said its an insult to Floyd, which it is. Im a super huge Tyson fan but impressive means P4P better and that is Floyd every single step of the way, peak or not.

The guy said more impressive. He didnt say KO machine. If thats the case you can say Matthysee is more impressive at his peak than Floyd. Floyd will never win that battle against any puncher but thats not what impressive is. Impressive is being dominant. Not just knocking guys out. Floyd rarely even comes close to losing a round. He can switch his style from fight to fight while Tyson is the exact same guy every fight. Floyd is nearly top notch at every single thing while Tyson was slightly flawed. Brutal guy but he's not more impressive at his peak than Floyd. Thats crazy.

More exciting? Yes. More hype? Yes. More box office star power? Yes. More impressive? Hell No and it truly is an insult. People just dont appreciate how great Floyd is. You will when he retires and the best fights you get are guys like Garcia vs Thurman or something. Then you will be yearning to see super elite fighters again. Just because he's not an all out brawler doesnt make him any less impressive. Shutting a guy out is just as dominant as stopping a guy in 5. Its just different styles
