People are high on him because at the core of "Boxing" he is the epitome..His skill level, power and his ability to make the best boxers afraid to engage means he should have the money, exposure and accolades of these undeserving, "exciting" fighters who make more and get more exposure for easier fights. I can understand the "exciting" fighter vs the "technical" fighter thing, but people also know that if you put Rigo in with bums who will charge in and let you knock them out, like most of Nonito's opposition, Rigo will look flashy and exciting too..(only mentioned Nonito because of rivalry)

Now i certainly respect the networks and promoters who have to pay these guys and their desire to have the most fan friendly fights that can be made.
It's like watching rappers who are actually good, lyrical, and thought provoking get shafted for the dumb, same sounding stuff you hear all over the radio.

I have not been overly impressed with Rigo, sans the Donaire fight.

Rigo won that fight and looked pretty good. He was down on the canvas and got back up. Donaire wasn't busy enough and Rigo gave him a boxing lesson.

        BUT...

I have also watched Rigo lose to Ricardo Cordoba and hang on for dear life in that fight. He was given a SD win. I scored the fight for Cordoba.

I mean Casey and Rico Ramos are solid pros but not elite or upper world class by any means. Maroquin and Abeko are good good B level pros but they've lost every step-up fight that they have had.

Fighting solid guys is good/very good...but not top 12-15 P4P good.

Rigo may become a top 10 p4p guy in the next year or two. He has good skills, great amateur backround, and shows flashes of brilliance. But alas, he is not a tv friendly fighter (?yet) and will have a hard time getting the big fights that he needs to prove his "greatness" against these fighters without the big tv money.

What is your opinion of Rigo?

        Top 10 P4P?
        Top 15 P4P?
Somewhere inside the Top 20 P4P?
I don't think you have actually watched the Cordoba fight. The fight wasn't even close. Those scores were bull****. Mid Rounds Rigo took his foot off the gas and put on a technical masterpiece.

Here is the fight from the knockdown. Show me where he holds on for dear life? Right after the "knockdown" Rigo gets up and Blasts Cordoba with a massive left hand, then proceeds to fight like Rigo.

If you are easily swayed by Jim Lampley being an idiot, then you might have thought that fight was close, but it wasn't. Cordoba didn't deserve a single round after the knockdown.

Rigo fought very negative, yes... thats how he fights He controlled every second of the fight, even in the round he was "knocked down". It was a knockdown, but it was on off balance one, if you watch the replay, the shot caught Rigo when he was stepping and he lost his footing.

Cordoba deciding to come forward, and Jim Lampley pretending its a big deal, doesn't make it so. Rigo won the fight easily.

I was in the same boat as you after watching the Cordoba fight, I felt he lost that.. And that was against a Cordoba who was pretty much spent after the Bernard Dunne fight!

But let's not forget that that was his 6/7 pro fight and first one truly on the big stage on the Pacquiao undercard in Cowboys stadium, so that could have been nerves! Since that fight I have to say, if you can't acknowledge the guys ability then you're a funking moron!

In terms of pure skill the guys only peer is Mayweather, he made Donaire who was a consensus top 5 p4p fighter look like a rank amateur with no business in the ring with him! And to compare Agbeko with Rico Ramos is disrespectful, he was a top bantamweight and a very good fighter who had a habit of making guys look bad!

People say that Rigo is boring... So ****ing what, does that mean that Ward and Mayweather are boring as well!? Everybody loves a good blood and guts fighter like Ruslan or Kirkland, but if you're a true boxing fan you also have to concede to pure skillful boxers like Rigo, Mayweather, Lara or Ward!

And let's be fair the guy can crack when he wants to, if a guy opens up to him like Casey then he'll be taken out! Unfortunately it seems that when guys see that they are not hitting him and he's throwing back those straight left hands then they have a tendency of going into a shell, just like Agbeko did! I think it's unfair to blame Rigondeaux for that!

To the guys saying Rigo lost to Cordoba: He did not. The second-half of that fight was like watching paint dry, but Guillermo clearly won. The reason why one of the judges (and you guys, too, I would venture) awarded Ricardo the fight is because Rigo was on his bicycle for the last six rounds. Even so, Cordoba didnt do nearly enough to win.
