Yes but unlike Golovkin he captured an Olympic gold medal. The biggest prize in amateur boxing.

BUT a quick glance at Golovkin's padded resume shows a roster of sub-standard opponents. His notable victories probably come against Macklin and Ouma! And his power aside, he doesn't appear outstanding to me.

I therefore wonder how this type of brain rot spreads through the boxing community? The hype surrounding Golovkin reminds of the same bubble that was around Matthyse - and we saw what happened there.

The mildest of suggestion that Golovkin is as ring savvy or near accomplished to the division's true greats ought to be considered an indictment for fraud.
Find me one person or one quote on NSb where people claim he is better than yesterdays greats like hagler and Hopkins...

No one is saying that,, everyone just thinks he is the best mw now in the current division, not of all time

GGG is obviously a good fighter, who really hasn't fought any legit competition yet except an undersized aged Ouma, and Macklin .Up to now GGG is more a marketing match making sensation than legend.

I think the OP was using the term "legend" in the following capacity:

"A traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated."

Anyway, I don't think his popularity is marketing or match-making, it's the manner of victory. People love knock-outs.

Alll those guys that ducked him, were offered less money to fight for the middleweight title than they would on espn fnf's. GGG's management are protecting him. That is a shame because he could be a star.

Bull****. Macklin and Stevens both got 300k, like 15x fnf wages. GGG only took 400k, which is an unheard of split. Macklin passed earlier to take like 85k on a Pac undercard. Quillins opponents are happy to get 125k.

While GGG was considered a serious threat by other Olympians since he won gold in junior and senior World Championships Ward was a "no one" since he hadn't shown anything in major amateur tournaments. Plus Ward had to move up since he was no 2 MW in the US.

Yeah we should let all champs fight garbage competition, blame it on everyone else and look like monsters KO'ing bums left and right lol
