Lets see what really happens first but yeah Cotto will be letting himself down if this is true (though 1 lb on Sergio wont mean ****), I was wound up that Cotto's 147 title was on the line vs Pacquaio as was Miguel, so it would be a bit hypocritical. I know He fought Tony at 150 but Fuck him! Hopefully he mans up and fights allows Martinez to fight up to 160 should he choose

stuff like this happens during the negotiation of fights.

you concede something, i'll give you something in return.

smaller ring? drop an extra lb. stuff like that.

it won't hurt martinez at all. he's not a big middleweight.

that's not that heavy at all, brodawg. 30 days is plenty of time to shed that weight if there's weight to lose. martinez was 159 vs jr, 159.5 against murray, and before that he was 157.5 against macklin.

lots of middleweights are heavier than 173 on the night of the fight.

he'll be absolutely fine at 159. if they start to go a lot lower than that it will become an issue.

          Possible.

Martinez is 98% of the time well below 160lb (157-159) and one lb will not hurt him in any way or form.

Now, Im interested to know what will be King Cotto's weight at weight in? I assume 157?

Do they even announce the CWs when they go live? I swear they didnt even mention Mayweather giving Canelo a CW on Showtime.

I wouldn't really mind it to be honest.

I'm not a huge fan of having catchweight's for the belt but it's more of a normality these days and isn't something new.

Makes sense really to have this fight a catchweight, the size disparity between the two of them is quite drastic.

As long as Sergio can make it, that is.

One pound is unlikely to make much of a difference particularly when Martinez has weighed in under 159 on a few occasions in the past. I'm not sure how much Cotto weighs in the ring but I imagine the weight difference on fight night will be as little as 3 or 4 pounds or as much as 8 or 9 pounds between them. Martinez is slightly the bigger man but the size difference is not drastic.

And it might not but I would hate to see a lineal title being fought at a cw.

Makes me wonder if there is a rehydration clause as well.
