    Cotto/Martinez at 159 CW?

    http://www.fight news.com/Boxing/cotto-martinez-at-159lb-catch-weight-236318

Miguel Cotto says when he and Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez meet on June 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York, it will be at a catch weight not exceeding 159 pounds. Cotto, a world champion at junior welterweight, welterweight and junior middleweight, is looking to become the first Puerto Rican to capture four world titles in different divisions. He added that there is no contractual limits on what Martinez may weigh when he enters the ring.

Martinez is the WBC middleweight champion and allegedly there are only small details to fine tune to formalize the HBO-televised fight.
    If this is true? Why?

No doubt they were negotiating; Team Cotto probably asked for 157 and they eventually settled on 159.

Same deal as when Cotto wanted to fight Margarito II at 150, but ended up settling on 153.

I guess. I just feel like with Sergio, a pound doesn't really make a difference because I don't see him as a guy who has trouble making 160

That would take some of the luster off of this fight.

It doesn't make a difference at all but like I said it's the result of negotiating and they finally agree on something insignificant. Also, perhaps there is a bit of "I'm the star" mentality from Cotto, so this is like some minor victory in his mind that he is dictating the terms.

That is ******. One pound? It just makes the fight sound strange. If Sergio manages to look bad its because he was weight drained doe

who cares? I'm surprised it's not lower. Cotto is a small ass JMW with short arms. He'd get murdered at 160 and I think Martinez will beat him up.

The weight doesn't mean much. It's just Cotto using his power to stick it to Martinez about the weight , Top name on billing and probably more stuff behind the scenes.

Martinez may be the champion but Cotto making him eat a bit of ***** because he knows he wants a $ fight and if Martinez doesn't fight Cotto he'd be pressured to fight GGG.
