I agree, at LW, imo, Duran does not have a single win against a top 50 ATG. I'll have another look but at the top of my head I can't think of any. But that doesn't mean he wasn't a great LW, he beat everyone he was supposed, top contenders, former/present/future champions, what more is he supposed to?
On top of all that, he moved up 2 divisions and fought one of the greatest welters in history, went to war with him took some big shots and won the fight. He had a bad time against Hearns but he lasted 15 with Hagler...standing at 5'6'' he was fighting one of the greatest middleweights ever and one of the most dangerous fighters of his era.
He then beat one of the best mw titlists of the late 80s in Iran Barkley, just look at what Barkley did in his own career. Duran is a top 10 ATG. There can't be any arguments on that.Comment

This is such a ****** thread
Duran has an amazing lightweight resume, top 3 ever at that weight
Then beat srl in his biggest fight
Then old, past prime and kinda fat, he fought atg fighters in their primes
Duran fought everyone over decades... I can't even believe this is an actual threadComment

I don't rank Leonard top ten all time due the said fact mentioned he only had 7 title defenses for his whole career I weigh guys heavily who defend a title. Duran gets a pass for his lightweight resume which is not all that. His welterweight resume is poor and his 154 and 160 reigns were just sideshows.
Duran all time when I rank him at each weight class he participated in stacks up this way.
Duran 135 - B no top ten ATG to compare skill with at the weight.
Duran 147 - C one defeat if Leonard does not equate to dominance. Duran lost key battles at this his second weight class. Losing to Benitez and Leonard in the rematch Duran never successfully defended his title at 147.
Duran 154 - D won the WBA belt from Davy Moore koed in his next fight against tommy hearns, never defended the belt he won!
Duran 160 - D won the belt from Iran Barkley never defended the title he won in his fourth weight class.
So that's three weight classes he competed in that he never defended a title he won. I rank him top 30-50 depending on the mood I'm in. LolComment

His greatness is undeniable.
I'm pretty sure he was being ironic due to the idiocy of this thread.Last edited by LacedUp; 02-02-2014, 10:58 AM.Comment
