Don't underestimate promoters/managers ability to avoid a fight. They'll figure something out, file a lawsuit for contract dispute then move to Showtime for a Canelo or Floyd fight, then use some of that money to settle with HBO out of court.

I think Sergio beats Cotto, hopefully he doesn't get injured and then we can have a GGG fight in the fall.

And if they do that, Golovkin haters will say nobody is avoiding him... Martinez just doing what's right for him.....

A guy literally trying to break contract so he doesn't have to fight Golovkin.... goodness

If Martinez won't fight GGG then he needs to do what he said to Chavez Jr , just come in the ring and hand over the BELT !!

he has limited time and fighting Rubio only prolongs his contract with HBO.
If he wants those Showtime fights so bad, finish his contract now
He'd make more money fighting Rubio in Argentina than with GGG. Rubio would be getting peanuts, but Martinez would get some nice change out in his country with as much as hes loved down there.

But yes, I don't think Martinez at this stage can beat Quillin or GGG so the fight is really only symbolic as a passing of the torch.

As mentioned by someone else, if he can't get approval for HBO with Rubio or maybe another "decent" fighter (maybe Kirkland or Geale and the like if GGG doesnt get ahold of em first or someone that stands lesser chance of KOing Martinez) then you better believe there will be a lawsuit. If GGG can get Stevens on HBO, they'll figure out some form of loophole to get him to Canelo or Floyd. I don't see Martinez fighting more than 3-4 times before he retires. I think his timeline will look something like Cotto - Rubio in Argentina - Canelo*** (via lawsuit, etc) OR Cotto - Rubio - HBO approved opponent THEN Nelo/Floyd and retire. Damn...Martinez is so old I don't know how he's gonna even make it to the third fight healthy or without getting beat. Even Rubio seems dangerous at this stage lol

What loophole? They'd offer them Golovkin to finish out the contract and what Martinez and their crew says will determine what happens. They can't anything on HBO. They're not putting him on a shelf, they'd offer him a fight.
Only argument Martinez can offer is the fight is too hard

                  Zbik ring a bell?

No?? I'm not sure how popular of an opinion that might be at this point. Out of curiosity; have you seen Quillin vs. Rosado? That's where a good many number of people may have reconsidered what you've just stated.

Sounds awesome. But Serg does have a title defense lined up for this summer. And seeing how GGG seems to love staying busy, I have a proposal. Some guys named Ward was saying the other day he's ready for GGG whenever. So instead of predictably lining up another no-hoper. How about GGG take that Ward guy up on his offer while he's waiting on Serg to handle his B.I. in June. That way he'll be nice and sharp by time Serg is ready to get it on this fall/winter.
