Don't talk to me about what Cuba was like. I was born there, and I've heard plenty of firsthand accounts about what it was like, all the way back to Machado. I've probably read more about my homeland than the total number of books you've ever absorbed.
Cuba had a very small middle class. You were either very wealthy or very poor. Not much different from most places on earth. The wealthy obviously had no reason to leave the island, but even the poor were content to stay. What were they going to do? Go someplace else and be poor? Back in the fifties, there weren't the same opportunities for the poor that there are now.
I was born in the same town as Teofilo Stevenson, a small town on the northeast coast of the island. They have a website where you can view old pictures from the fifties, as well as recent pics. The pre-Castro photos depict a well-developed little town. I've driven through places in the U.S. today that pale in comparison.
Castro created on one end and destroyed on the other. In my opinion, Cuba would've been better off without him. Once there was wealth. Now everyone but the very highest in government are dirt-poor.
dont give a **** if you were born there .. im only talking about principles of communism...i do think that cuban americans who are criticzing how castro handled things are a bunch of hypocites since they are benefiting from it really .
Ooooo...nice comeback. Do me a favor, numbnuts. Don't send a message in my direction until you're ready to lose all your points.

IMO the revolution was good, it was honest and overthrew an oppressive regime. The problem they faced being such a small island with not a whole lot of resources was that in order to carry out socialist revolution, they had to rely on others, obviously that being the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union could have done more for Cuba, and of course their own corruption and failures led to their collapse, leaving Cuba with virtually no foreign support. On top of that the inhumane sanctions by the US helped cripple any kind of growth. The revolution didn't have much of a chance under those circumstances.
Despite all this, the standard of living believe it or not is still better than most Latin American countries who have been absolutely ****d by free trade, coup d'etats, modern day imperialism, military intervention, assassinations, drug trade, etc.

You should thank me. I am the reason you're going to community college and started posting with better grammar.
I ignored you because you were e-stalking me. I see you still are following my posts.

You telling me about Cuba is like a fifth grader trying to debate with a college professor. Your knowledge is severely limited. Let me ask you this: If the "principles of communism" are so viable, how come they've failed practically everywhere they've been promulgated? And how, pray tell, are Cuban-Americans benefiting from Cuba's current state?
When I read the title I was expecting a really classy eye opening letter to Robert Garcia that would make him regret what he said. Instead, I read this trashy letter that puts you as low as that scum bag Robert. I guess I expected too much.
