And what did he say when Abril schooled his boy Rios? He had the audacity to claim that Brandon won, when 99.9% of boxing fans knew Richie won hands down.Comment

Robert was ignorant but I don't think his intent was to be malicious. No need for this to get nastier than it already isComment

I'm not defending his character here, simply saying he ain't bitter about losing to Casamayor or Corrales for that matter. If anything I think he's bitter about his lost to Tackie, he looked upset when Rios made fun of it.Comment

Don't talk to me about what Cuba was like. I was born there, and I've heard plenty of firsthand accounts about what it was like, all the way back to Machado. I've probably read more about my homeland than the total number of books you've ever absorbed.
Cuba had a very small middle class. You were either very wealthy or very poor. Not much different from most places on earth. The wealthy obviously had no reason to leave the island, but even the poor were content to stay. What were they going to do? Go someplace else and be poor? Back in the fifties, there weren't the same opportunities for the poor that there are now.
I was born in the same town as Teofilo Stevenson, a small town on the northeast coast of the island. They have a website where you can view old pictures from the fifties, as well as recent pics. The pre-Castro photos depict a well-developed little town. I've driven through places in the U.S. today that pale in comparison.
Castro created on one end and destroyed on the other. In my opinion, Cuba would've been better off without him. Once there was wealth. Now everyone but the very highest in government are dirt-poor.Comment
