Casuals don't like technicians without flair to their personality. Also a lot of casuals are nationalistic, he's not mexican or rican so thats gone. He has a 550k minimum for fights, Arums fault but how are they going to pay that. Even if it was in Miami the site gets the money, not HBO so that wouldn't help get him air time. There's so many issues that've all been discussed....Rigo without changing his persona or blowing out weaker opponents and being offensive....is not going to sell...point blank.Think of it like this, if Top Rank billed Rigo as the master tactician he is similar in the vain as GGG is this almighty knockout artist (rightly so), it would be somewhat more understandable and maybe draw more fans to his bouts.
I'm no Rigo apologist but with this his skill and ability, you would think Top Rank will atleast make a worthwhile investment in him before going bust on him. As has been noted by many of our Cuban posters on BS, there is a demand for him to fight in Miami. Like GGG is fighting in Monte Carlo to satisfy his European fans fighting on a prime-time slow (all down to K2 mind you), Top Rank can try and throw Rigo towards areas where he is at the very least capable of drawing fans.
Point of my original post is this is how you build international fighters. Have them fight frequently and across the globe is a handy bonus.Comment

Clearly my OCD is a little worse than yours Hougigo - both the spelling and factual errors in the article have me twitching - dammit- more wine waiter!
Nonetheless not a terrible overview of GGGs recent career for the unacquainted (who it's obviously aimed at).Last edited by Citizen Koba; 01-29-2014, 07:57 PM.Comment

I really can't understand why people blame Golovkin for the fighters who turn him down. It really boggles my mind.Comment

Because then they'd have nothing to be mad about. Geale turns down a fight in Feb, it's Golovkin's fault. Murray refuses to fight, it's Golovkins faultComment

This I do substantially agreee with...people buy what they're sold (at last to an extent) - to me Rigo is a f#kkin artist - there has to be a way of selling him (something along the lines of convincing the viewing public that they're amongst the boxing cognescenti if they watch his fights) - for TR to just go 'meh - too much effort' with one of the greatest talents on the planet seems to me foolish as well as ignorant (although, to be fair, my business acumen may be reasonably questioned as I don't have the funds to replace my desktop PC that was fried by the kids on Saturday and am now logging in on my daughters geriatric laptop).Think of it like this, if Top Rank billed Rigo as the master tactician he is similar in the vain as GGG is this almighty knockout artist (rightly so), it would be somewhat more understandable and maybe draw more fans to his bouts.

Nonetheless, TRs failure to promote Rigo correctly should take nothing from K2 or from Sanchez' development of GGG as a KO artist, iin the current market what Golovkin has is what sells - the only adventure that's being taken is putting money behind a fighter without any substantial ethnic following, and damn, HBOs being coy enough about that.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 01-29-2014, 07:05 PM.Comment

Last I checked, GGG isn't a heavyweight. Therefore if nobody at 60 wants to fight him, he needs to go elsewhere. And since he's supposedly made arguably the best light heavyweight in the world quit in sparring. KOs heavyweights in the gym wearing 1000oz gloves. And is willing to fight anyone from 54-68. There's really no excuse for him fighting the tomato cans his resume is littered with. Some guy named Ward said he's ready for the great GGG. What the problem is???Comment

GGG still has work to do at 160. What's Ward's excuse for not moving to light heavy?Last I checked, GGG isn't a heavyweight. Therefore if nobody at 60 wants to fight him, he needs to go elsewhere. Yet you'd bust a nut big enough to cover NYC if GGG said in an interview, "you p.ussy Floyd Mayweather quit being a b1tch and fight me."Comment
