June 2008 - Paul Williams beats Quintana in the rematch via 2nd round KO. Knowing he wouldn't get a Floyd fight, Paul called out Cotto.

Nov 2008 - Unable to get a meaningful fight at welterweight Williams vacated his WBO title and moved up to fight Verno Phillips for the WBO 154lb title.

That same month it was announced that Cotto would be fighting Michael Jennings for the very same WBO title Paul had vacated.

Make of it what you will.
His first fight off that war with Margarito should have been Williams?

Yes But how much did Trout got paid vs Cotto? 250K compared to what he made with Canelo close to 800K if I'm not mistaken. Cotto always wants to low ball his oponents or his stable mates oponents, like when he offered Fernando Montiel scraps to fight his fighter in NewYork or Puerto Rico, Montiel countered with triple the amount of money to do it in Mexico.....An Cotto say no.

Williams was scheduled to face Cintron actually. Cintron pulled out - the Cotto fight could have been made then.

if that's what he meant then ok.

but if Floyd and Manny can give Cotto the respect he deserved as champion, then Cotto can do the same for Sergio.

Cotto is probably trying to get an edge just like Mayweather does.

They sent out two offers to two different fighters for a bout after they found out Cintron was injured, Zab Judah, who declined, and Carlos Quintana, who accepted and beat him. Miguel Cotto was never contacted by Goossen.

Breaking News: Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron is off!

By Gabriel Montoya (Nov 29, 2007) Doghouse Boxing

Moments ago Dan Goossen informed Doghouseboxing.com’s Gabriel Montoya that Kermit Cintron has pulled out of the proposed unification bout with Paul Williams after suffering an injury to his right hand.

Goossen immediately sent out offers to two other welterweight contenders. “We sent out an offer to Zab Judah who appeared to not want to take it. We put out an offer to Carlos Quintana who appeared to want to take it,” said Goossen.

As for the fight remaining in St. Lucia, Goossen said “ That’s the plan but right now we arte focusing on finding an opponent.” At this point, it is unclear whether or not the unification bout with Cintron will be rescheduled.

Yeah cos I'm sure they didn't want the Cotto fight.

Most likely because Cotto's team had ruled themselves out of fighting Williams.

An that's how it went down.....thank you I was trying to remember who Cotto fought for Williams Belt, in yet another bacated champioship belt istead of fighting the true owner of that belt.

Or Williams wasn't quite as eager to face "everybody" as he claimed to be. Most likely that IMO.
