You said he didn't need to chase DM but Jones felt otherwise because of pressure and tried to make a fight in Germany. HBO Vice President Kerry Davis exhausted himself trying to make that fight on a number of occasions. So the part I dispute is Jones not feeling the need to chase DM, which he was, and did.
Why didn't Dariusz Michalczewski & RJJ ever fight?

At one point In 2001, Roy's advisor Brad Jacobs, met with Kerry Davis VP for HBO, and they tried desperately to make the fight.
Peter Kohl who was DM's advisor was never available to sit down and discuss terms. He was also never available via phone, and he wouldn't even name a figure to get the ball rolling. I remember the articles that indicated all of this, the part about getting a figure and not being available via phone. This was prior to Universum showing interest in the fight being held in Germany. This Germany potential was the last straw for the fight being made. That was after DM and team decline a fight on a Jones undercard. He was offered by HBO, 5 million and declined it.Last edited by richardt; 01-15-2014, 09:48 PM.Comment

This is a myth about what happened to Roy as he didn't actually put on any significant weight but was rather just not making a cut for 1 fight, also if it was so harmful to his performance explain why he went down to 169 even later to fight Tito and was fine in the fight? No he couldn't have. Jones was past it when he fought Tarver. Anyone who loses pure muscle instead of excess fat causes muscle atrophy and it can have long term affects on the health and stability of an athlete and causes aging to take place. Jones ruined himself by dropping down from small heavy to 175. He did not have fat reserves. Comparing prime Jones to this is absurd. And if you are going to use a 3 person analogy, how about saying that DM lost to Jones's leftovers then??? And DM went life and death with Hall, a guy Jones ate for breakfast.
I now realize Roy was a ducker taking safer fights and was threatened by Dariusz who was after all the real LHW champion at the time.Comment

This is NOT a myth! Jones did not walk around as a muscular 198 pound fighter so you are wrong and anyone looking at his physique at 198 can see that and EVERYONE noticed how GUANT Jones was in the ring walk into Tarver 1, this is not up for debate. And it is common knowledge that Jones did not lose the weight properly for the Tarver fight like he did when he fought Trinidad. There are right ways and wrong ways to adapt the body to weight loss. This is a myth about what happened to Roy as he didn't actually put on any significant weight but was rather just not making a cut for 1 fight, also if it was so harmful to his performance explain why he went down to 169 even later to fight Tito and was fine in the fight?

I don't think there was any great urgency from either of them to fight each other. They'd both need to be paid more than they were already making at home and neither seemed willing to offer that. You said he didn't need to chase DM but Jones felt otherwise because of pressure and tried to make a fight in Germany. Jones wanted no part of DM. He was more than happy to simply collect the belts that were wrongfully stripped.
HBO didnt call him reluctant Roy without good reason!Last edited by PolishPummler; 01-15-2014, 10:04 PM.Comment

Also why is it common knowledge because Roy says so? Maybe he was getting older and his reflexes slowed which happens but don't blame him putting on a very insignificant amount of weight then 13 months later after he beat Tarver the first time getting ko'd in the rematch on anything other than Tarver being a hungry very good opponent with some power in that straight left.Comment

In the ring he came in at 199. Either way, I spoke with a former 175 pound contender and an exercise physiologist who verified what takes place when you lose weight. The 175 contender said it is HORRIBLE losing even body fat, let alone cutting muscle and this ages a fighter, especially one at the end of his prime. Those 2 sources converge on an acceptable fact regarding weight loss for athletes. I'll be happy to debate something that you actually know something about but THIS is not it!Officially 193lbs

Here is a DOCUMENTED FACT: Five days before the Jones/Tarver match, Jones weighed 183 pounds. He was gaunt and drawn at the weigh-in. He sat slumped on a stool while he waited to step on the scales.Comment

NO, I am basing what BOTH sides have said and the facts are, both sides declined the fight because they wanted more than what was being offered. I read every single article and followed this closely day-by-day for years.Comment
