In 2001, he said "I don't think a knockout would be enough over there!"
But Kohl would never sit down with HBO to discuss terms for Dariusz to fight in the U.S.
Again, go and look at his resume. It's quite clear what his intentions were.

The prospects for a Dariusz Michalczewski bout are "$20-25 million to fight him in Germany. After what happened in Korea, that's what I need. He barely beat Richard Hall. They can say linear all they want to. Who got a win over James Toney, Reggie Johnson, Vinny Pazienza, and Hopkins? He don't wanna fight these guys."
Jones had zero, zilch, absolutely no interest in going to Germany, regardless of how much money was on the table.

But you've asked the question, why would Dariusz and Kohl have agreed to the proposed double header, without a guaranteed shot at Roy afterwards?
But the point I'm making, is that no negotiations ever took place, because Kohl refused the mere proposal of it.
Now it seems obvious to me, that if HBO had brought Dariusz over to the U.S. to fight on Roy's card, to both introduce him to the U.S. public, and to hype the fight, then of course they would have been an agreement/contract that both fighters would have met afterwards.
There's no way that Davis and HBO would have gone to the trouble and expense, to not have them meet afterwards.
It seems to me, that you're implying that if HBO had offered a guaranteed shot at Roy afterwards, along with the proposed double header, then things may have turned out different?
But there's no evidence to support that theory.
Because we know that Davis first tried to negotiate for a fight and only came up with the proposed double header, because Kohl was never available.
Also, we know that Kohl flat out refused the idea.
It seems clear to me, that they had no intentions of going to the U.S. regardless.Last edited by robertzimmerman; 01-18-2014, 08:37 PM.
