Roy wasn't gonna risk an international robbery, and apparently Dariusz wasn't gonna leave his homestead either
Why didn't Dariusz Michalczewski & RJJ ever fight?

The thing was that DM, being a superstar in Europe, would leave a lot of money behind by fighting on a Jones undercard. Nobody would do that without a significant carrot.I don't know where this "no guaranteed fight" thing comes from. Probably Kohl. The whole point was for him to get US exposure to fight Jones. It's like when Canelo demanded a guarantee he would get Mayweather after Trout and Mayweather refused. Simply because in boxing there are too many variables to pigeon-hole yourself like that.Comment

Well he was a superstar in Germany, not Europe. And he had other opportunities to fight Jones in the states aside from the undercard. I remember the NY Daily News giving us a weekly play-by-play on negotiations. HBO stepped in an attempt to meet with Kohl and after weeks of playing tag they decided he really wasn't interested in fighting Jones.Comment

I dont know the timeline of the Daily news articles, but I know Kohl was pissed of at Jones not being willing to commit. Maybe he got tired of playing games.Comment

Or maybe he was happy selling Dariusz as the guy who "the best fighter in the world is scared to face." And then have him fight Jones leftovers and look horrible in the process.Comment

Jones said he bought what at the time was over the counter Creatine. And Hall also tested positive for something. That was the only time Jones ever tested positive for anything. They pulled Creatine off the shelves eventually. The first part sounds right - another typical promoter beef. Admittedly, I don't recall what happened there. I do recall the WBA asking Michalzewski to defend against their mandatory and he opting to defend the WBO mandatory instead. So they stripped him.
And you're right about Andro. I don't believe they ever divulged what Jones and Hall tested positive for.Last edited by richardt; 01-17-2014, 08:29 PM.Comment
