I would hope so. Golovkin himself obviously has little say, but whether it's Loeffler or HBO that makes the decisions I'll be disappointed if Kirkland is chosen over Geale.

I think it'd be a bad mistake, even if Kirklad might sell better as the US fighter and KO artist. In terms of proving his credentials, Geale is by far the more credible opponent - it'd probably cost some more and may not earn as much, but at some point that's just a sacrifice that has to be made if HBO believe in GGG.

Glad to hear that he wants to clean out the division before moving on, not many fighters who are said to be the best in their division do that now days so it will be great when Gennady does. Looking forward to all his fights this year, I really hope that he does get Quillen, Martinez, and either Murray or Geale and knocks all of them out.

middleweight has been around since the 1800s. Super middleweight was just created in the 80s.

If he can make 160 easy no need to move up. he can clean up 160

Ward can wait around all year, I say fugg it.

GGG should wait around for Canelo!! That's a much more exciting fight.

Still not sold on ggg, but he is definitely exciting to watch.
Hope he shares the ring with a few credible foes this year. Damn this cold war... So many good match ups could be made.

From '54-'68, you have Canelo, Cotto, Chavez Jr, Sergio, Quillen, Andre Ward, I mean it doesn't get any better than that and Gennady is willing to fight them all. That's Marvin Hagler mindset!!!
So when will he actually fight someone lmaooo

No he doesn't, this isn't Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather we're talking about. Golovkin is not a PPV fighter and has only recently become semi-popular with casuals, he only gets paid $300-400k per fight. He's not going to start dictating to his paymasters who have already turned down a series of opponents for him not long ago.

Even Floyd has to get his opponents approved, Showtime will be pushing for certain fighters for him too and Golovkin is nowhere near his level in terms of draw. Andre Ward is another who has been around a while, he came up with two opponents and HBO turned him down flat insisting on Rodriguez.

Like Hopkins said recently, the TV networks are overlapping as promoter these days.

GGG fought Macklin on HBO, I think Geale is better and more popular, why does he not meet their standards?
