again, are you talking about amateur boxing in your original post, or simply throwing out a red herring? [i know the answer to this quiestion, mind you. you were not talking about amateur boxing in your original post, and this line of inquiry is irrelevant and intended to distract from the point i made, which is that boxing [pro boxing] is ordered financially.]

the amounts weren't disclosed to my knowledge, but everybody in the WSB was paid an allowance with the idea that they would remain amateurs. the AIBA also wanted him to join a league they were trying to push called the APB, which would pay amateurs while allowing them to compete in the olympics.

top amateurs are regularly given allowances to train, and have their housing, travel, and living expenses covered by both state and private interests. this can be anything from a PAL [police athletic league,] fundraiser to get kids into a national tournament, to bonafide grants and subsidies coming from the state.

posters like yourself don't actually read stuff like this and learn anything, but i want to demonstrate the involvement of the state in the cuban national program. this is a wikipedia article. it should be a quick, easy read.

you really think a dirt poor kid from communist cuba is paying to fly around the world and box?

        BTW,
There have always been forums. the barbershop, the workplace, the garage.

Fans never cared about money until this generation.

You are making two different poins and are not accounting for the change in the sport.

Boxing shifted from mainstream TV to cable. Upon that switch, finances became more of an issue. Then cable companies started signing fighters to exclusive deals and selling fights on PPV-which made finances paramount.

ALl Fights used to be on free TV and were paid for by advertisers. then the major fights were on cable and paid for by subscribers. in this era the value of a fighters HBO deal was indicative of his status in the sport.

with he PPV era how much a fight costs is a direct indication of how prominent the fighter is and the casual fans expectation of the fight.

only in major fights in the 1980's were purses announced. today purses for the whole ppv card are sent out.

if it bothers you so be it. but you seem to be masking your real problem. how about you just post what your real beef is so we can discuss.
How much did Vazquez and Marquez bank without looking it up? you seem to know quite a bit on other fighters financial situations, tell me more about these two.

I don't know what the purses were. SO what exactly is the point of this thread?

I think what the OP is trying to say is that there is a whole new generation of fans that merit fighters based on PPV buys, rating figures, endorsements, etc.

              I must say I agree.

the AP reported in 2010 that the WSB offered an allowance of up to 300 grand for the year, and a win bonus of 5000 for up to 12 fights.

i can't believe i wasted 30 seconds on the 15 year old TS

In the ppv era these variables are indicative of a fighters stature to a degree, but they shouldn't be the sole variable.

Whats funny is the TS nme used to be coldcashcanelo-he changed it after he lost to floyd. Canelo is the embodiment of the problem you say the TS is exspressing.

That you really don't care about the business end. You pretend to care when it suits your agenda. Deep down, the business side is not interesting to you or any of these other clowns. if it was, we'd have a section here for boxing business. But we don't, and no forum I know does because people don't watch for that reason. You don't give two sxhits how much any fighter makes because it has no impact on you. You watch for the same reason everyone else does, because its exciting.
