Your right they have high standards. That's why Floyd was breaking all the records. So your theory is HBO dropped Floyd and missed out on Floyd vs Canelo only to put **** fights on like Rios vs Pacquiao? Great business sense. Your probably the one that told Manny to pass on the 50/50 split in 09 too. Now look at him. Next time you see Manny loan him 20 bucks from me.
Rigondeaux banned from HBO

I still don't think this is so much of a Rigondeaux problem as it is opponent selection, the cold war doesn't help in putting Rigondeaux in a fight that the casuals would likely enjoy either. I've always said that Rigondeaux-Mares or Santa Cruz would have been one for the casuals, so I guess he simply needs to go to GBP.Comment

This is old news. I made a thread about this on 12/20. ESPN's Dan Rafael interviewed HBO Sports president Ken Hershman, who said they wouldn't be featuring Rigo for the foreseeable future. No shock, really. Arum said, before Rigo's last fight, that the network "threw up" every time he mentioned Guillermo's name.Comment

There are other networks out there. HBO ain't the only game in town. You guys are acting like Rigos now homeless. Some other network will pick him up. At least he can say I ruined Nonito and you guys scratched me a 750,000 check for doing so.Comment

lol Really. Against whom? Nobody beats Rigo at 122. He'll either be very old or fighting men much larger than himself before that happens.lol @ "i think it's sad...I wanted to see him lose on the big stage." If true, it's kind of upsetting but based on what the VP of HBO Sports said recently about the whole situation, I understand the dilemma.
Rigo will fight somewhere, and I'll find a way to watch it. He's not retiring.
YouTube is great, but it provides a platform for any idiot with a PC to broadcast their silly thoughts.Comment

You're a principled man, my friend. I wouldn't have gone so far, but I applaud you.
How many networks can you name? Let's face it, they'll have the same concerns HBO did. I understand Showtime is interested in Rigo, but you know he'll get the same treatment there if he doesn't perform to their expectations. I think Guillermo's only real options are to fight in Europe or possibly Asia.Comment

Epix, ESPN, Fox Sports, Showtime. I love the production that Fox Sports 1 has done and I can't wait for the Victor Ortiz fight. You're a principled man, my friend. I wouldn't have gone so far, but I applaud you.

What a shame. You're too good for the sport so a network chooses to exile you, it's fucking disgusting honestly. I don't know why they couldn't just throw Rigo on undercards, unless it was a big fight (Rigo-Donaire), because a fight like Rigo-Agbeko should have never been a main event to a HBO telecast. It's like they were trying to set him up for failure after he spanked Donaire.Comment

Like people have said before, boxing promoters shouldn't keep promises to fighters that they can't keep. This all goes back to that Nonito Donaire shit... Rigo was intentionally supposed to be used as a platform for Nonito's climb to fame (no fighter in the top 5 lb. for lb. has defeated a 2x Olympic gold medalist), but that plan backfired on Top Rank and HBO. Now Nonito is questioning his own place in boxing (he's flirted with the idea of retirement, and he looked like trash in his last fight), and HBO is left with a boxer that they don't want to promote. I don't TOTALLY buy that bullshit that Rigo is "un-promotable." They just don't want to promote a boxer that doesn't smile, isn't pretty, and he ethnically un-represented by Cuban-Americans (in large numbers). He's a hard sell, but nothing is impossible. Just don't say the man is going to be paid "x" amount of dollars when you know he's not a "hot selling" item.
And as far as the Erislandy Lara comparisons over there @ Golden Boy... Think about this. Did GB and Showtime ever threaten to pull Lara off their networks? Did Showtime openly disrespect Lara? Is Lara consistently still getting fights? Lara isn't getting the "cinnamon" plate he wants, but he's still eating! HBO is telling Rigo that they can't even eat off his table! So yeah... Rigo should look at going to Showtime and GB. They make not like him, but they'll respect him.Comment
