I dont speak russian so idk what the deal is with the word negro for them. What i do know is that saying all black fighters do anything, regardless if its talk a lot or something else is a generalization. That is exactly what racists do, they think all people of a certain race are the same way which in reality is never the case. If he is racist it would be in his best interest to hide it, that ignorant but seemingly harmless generalization of black people could very well be him showing his true self.

Or maybe it isnt, maybe thats the only time he has ever made a generalization about blacks or maybe he doesnt truly believe what he said. Who knows..

What i do know, or was reminded of from reading this thread is there are a lot of racist morons on this forum. People claiming its true that all black fighters talk a lot and others who just blindly defend Kovalev without knowing or caring what he really said. Not to mention the people who use the thread to say even more racist things themselves.

2014 and still this ****, man. Forget about black, white, asian, hispanic races etc. The HUMAN race as a whole is ****ing pathetic.

Edit: In sweden the word "neger" is commonly and casually used to describe black people despite the fact that its a racial slur. People from scandinavia are just so racist they dont care and people can get away with being as racist as they want to, literally.

A few years ago a couple of swedes went to a halloween party all but one of them with their bodys painted black, in blackface and with nooses hanging from their necks pretending to be ******. The other guy had no paint on, wore a suit and portrayed a slave owner.

At the party they held a mock slave auction, "selling" the "******" for small change and then making them carry out various tasks while everyone had a good laugh. An American exchange student asked one of them what they were doing to which he responded "being n.iggers".

The girl left and later made a complaint to the university, they did nothing so she went to the police who also did nothing. The whole thing got some attention locally (********** being mistreated isnt a big deal) but the university (swedens biggest and most esteemed university btw) stood behind the "pranksters" as they called them 100%. The American girl however suffered so much abuse from fellow students she dropped out and moved back home, receiving no support from the school or the police.

The story goes on and believe it or not gets worse but i will just get to the point. Which is that in sweden people get a pass for racism, you could call someone a ni.gger on tv and get away with it easily. Maybe its the same way in russia. I heard eastern europe is vey racist, maybe Kovalev said n.igger and meant it as a slur but people just dont care.

Lol, humans will be humans. I honestly don't mind the debate. But here are too many idiots around here who can't have that level of debate. So it typically turns out bad.

I happen to speak Russian and I have read that infamous interview and here is what I have to say on this whole thing.

First of all he used the word "negr" which is a common word for describing people of African descent. I know in Ukraine for example but in Ukrainian it is more common now to hear on TV the term "temno shkiryi" which means "dark skinned" which is the equivalent of the American term "black." But "negr" is still a very common that does not carry any negative connotation.

When Kovalev talks about his experiences in America he is obviously going to try to give some description of the people that he is dealing with, so he is going to say "tanned guys"....BTW the term in Russian for tanned is "zagarelyi" which literally means burnt, so this is something your google translation will not catch.

There are other terms to be used if he wanted to refer to an African with ill intent, such as "nigg3r" pronounced "knee-gear"

And anyway everything is being taken out of context.

You have to remember that Eastern Europeans have no connection to Western colonization, hence they do not simply give a **** about racial and political issues faced by Americans, the English, the Dutch, the Spaniards etc...So they do not feel the need to be politically correct around issues they have zero relation too just because they happen to share the continent or the skin colour of said conquistador.

Hence me personally when I immigrated to Canada felt and still feel no problem getting into a heated exchange with someone of another race because I do not feel that anything that I might say will hurt my opponent by bringing up some dark moments in history...Hey my oppressor was the Russian and the Polak not the African or the Chino.

I am not defending Kovalev, quite frankly I do not care what he says as much as I do not care much for what Hopkins says, I like both fighters.

But all of you need to step out of your American bubble and try to learn the world around you and how they perceive things.

If my goal is to demoralize my opponent I will use eveyrthing in my arsenal to make him feel bad. I'll call him skinny, fat, *****y, pasty, darkness whatever it is that will upset him. It does not for one second mean that I believe in the genetic racial superiority of one over the other because in this day and age to believe in that concept is to be ******ed.

In eastern Europe you refer to black people exactly the same way Kovalev pronounced negur. Ukraininas, Russians, Bulgarians, Serbians, etc. most Slavic countries. As a a matter of fact that's how it's written in biology textbooks.

You know what a jacazz you sound like defending a privalege to use a word? It works as an unspoken truth....but to actually use a property of language as a means for self entitlement with respect to calling someone a rascist....and to do so as one might dictate a grocery list shows a real lack of self awareness and an awareness of being a hypocrite.

Guess what? If a word is prohibitive then, technically speaking, NOBODY or EVERYBODY, is entitled to use the word.....And if the word does not cause damage equivalent to yelling "fire" in a crowded movie theatre where non exists....then it is technically free speech.

You are not allowed to use a rascist word because of skin color and prohibit someone else from using the word because of the color of his/her skin....hypocrite.
