Why are people still defending Kovalev's racist comments?

Celebrating a victory and taunting is two different things. Boxing is a violent sport... Really??? I did not know that. Please tell me what the tension was between him and Sillakh and how was it different than any other tension in a boxing match. Don't need to get uptight because I had an opinion about a fighter.

- No, I shall not defend Sergey here but… I’ll tell you the story how I see it and, well, how it was. We asked for the Sillakh fight a couple of years ago, when both fighters were rising prospects. Sillakh’s promoter offered us a contract but it wasn’t that good for us. For example, if Sergey had been successful, that promoter would have options on his four next fights. Not that good. We’ve turned that offer down. They moved on with the [Denis] Grachev fight. And in one of the interviews, the Ukrainian, despite knowing Sergey well from his amateur days, while being asked about Kovalev, turned to the camera and answered very ignorantly: “Who is Kovalev?”

That was in the past, long in the past. Now in Canada, during a presser, Sergey said that Sillakh was a dangerous opponent, a good fighter with skills and a punch to go with. And Sillakh said the same, acknowledging the champion. That would have been it but…when Sergey came back to his apartments, he saw what Sillakh wrote in his twitter or blog, saying that he would end Kovalev’s career, that he would sweep the canvas with Kovalev’s body etc. Now it got personal.

And after that, during a face-off after the weigh-in, Kovalev asked him about it. Sillakh told him to shut up and to observe the flashes after his punches. Can I blame Sergey for being very personal with Ismayl? Surely, I cannot.

Add his antics in the Cleverly fight, it looks like this is a pattern with Kovalev. All I'm saying is some of the things he does in ring is unwarranted. I'll still watch him because sometimes it's all about the boxing but I think taunting a downed opponent should be a line a professional boxer don't cross.

Kov recently stated in an interview that he likes black people less every day. He also refers to them as sunburned people in allboxing.ru interview, too.

He specifically said “I dislike those sunburnts less and less every day after leaving in the Florida. They act like “purebread n***’s.”

This is nothing new. Now that he's won the title though and is getting publicity, he cant control his tongue and they are trying to clean it up. But the dude's a racist.

A lot of times translations aren't accurate and a lot of words, phrases, or expressions are different in other languages. Kovalev has never shown any signs of being a racist but he has shown signs of being a great fighter. I think that this is all either a misunderstanding or someone is just trying to kick a little dirt on Kovalev's image.

Read my post above. He's exhibited racism before. This is old news to me. he refered to black people as ******s and 'sunburns' back in september LOL.

He's provocative in the ring no doubt, Drago-style seems respectful when interviewed though. He's great to watch, hope they can make that Stevenson fight, a real 50-50 clash for the No.1 spot.

So you like dancing over a body better than sticking your head out? Okay ... also not uptight anything you put here is able to be responded to... and if you didnt know the tension coming in the fight well that explains a lot ... friend top of page put some of it down ... I will ask who your favorite boxers I bet I could show you examples for each one ... but it's all good

Thanks for posting the article but I was just saying I didn't see any blatant disrespect in that article.
