I'm not racist, I understand that everywhere there are good and bad guys, but these "tanned" every day I like less. I live in Florida, there are many illegals-islanders, I can see how they behave.

Should the same thing have happened to Adonis Stevenson, Broner or PAC for cheating on his wife? Of course not

A racist would not have a black trainer, this is being taken out of context and is being translated. Using the russian word for black is different than using the russian word for N-word.
Why is everything about race on this forum?
Why is it always the same race baiters?

I could give my translation if someone wanted me to.
On this topic though, I can tell you that the word 'racist' doesn't really exist as a term in Russia and Ukraine, as the territory is so dominated by one demographic/race historically and there is no history of colonisation, there does seem to be sort of an ingrained disdain for blacks for some reason. As said before though, the word may be 'negro' in English just as a means of saying black but it is pronounced more like 'nyegr', which SOUNDS more offensive.
However, it must be said, it has occurred to me that this word is sort of embedded in the vocabulary of younger generations (generally post soviet) by their parents and grandparents. I wasn't born, nor grew up in the soviet period (first in my family born in the independent post 1992 period) but it does seem the word is used more by older generations comfortably, and that it's sort of taught onto younger ones instead of just describing someone as 'black'.
In Sergey's case, I don't know, I don't think he's racist, but taking into account his background there may be certain things that have been ingrained throughout his childhood and being brought up that he can't control, I suppose this may manifest itself as racism or hate but a lot of it is cultural differences which he will overcome or at least learn to mask now that he lives in a much more diverse and multi-cultural society.

If so... I don't care. Because I'm here to watch and discuss what boxers do in the ring, I could care less how politically incorrect they are outside of the ring.
It's almost like some people want to use this as a reson to make Kovalev disappear and become irrelevant in boxing.
Stevenson was a pimp, and he was just named BSCENE FOTY, why? Because all that matters on a boxing site is boxing. Sorry. Of course you didn't quote me whe I mentioned Adonis

A lot of times translations aren't accurate and a lot of words, phrases, or expressions are different in other languages. Kovalev has never shown any signs of being a racist but he has shown signs of being a great fighter. I think that this is all either a misunderstanding or someone is just trying to kick a little dirt on Kovalev's image.

EDIT - personally, I don't think he is showing any hate based on things like skin colour or background, he is more complaining about behaviour or the way they conduct themselves. In this case, that is not racist...but simply a poor choice of words to describe what he means. Not particularly poor or controversial in Russian but when translated, yes.Last edited by PainfromUkraine; 01-04-2014, 09:50 AM.
