Does anyone actually think Cotto vs Martinez is competetive?

It depends on which Martinez shows up.

Cotto is the better technician of the two and could easily make it a boxing match.

Martinez has only done spectacularly against tall, slow, plodding opponents who rely on physicality rather than skills.

Cotto can match him in both hand and foot speed. If he can handle Sergio's power and outbox him then it's an easy UD.

I'll put some money on this fight if Cotto is seen as some obscene underdog when he clearly isn't.

And this isn't a scenario where Cotto is going to be smaller and more agile. Martinez is faster, has better balance and movement, hit's harder, has better punch resistance.

In my mind, this fight is a mismatch and I don't know why Cotto is taking it.

Sure Martinez is a bit older now, but that's not going to be nearly enough for Cotto to win. He will be outboxed bad for 3-4 rounds and I see Martinez taking him out somewhere around the 5th or 6th
I agree with the bold. But Cotto is a throwback fighter. He requested this fight and will take his beating until he has to kneel or get stopped.

Martinez is better than Austin Trout. And when Cotto hits hit on the that chin, he is going to get on that horse. No way Cotto outlasts Martinez

in this sport, you'e only as good as your last fight. cotto looked great against a subpar challenger, and martinez has been out with an injury so it seems that it should be. of course, if martinez bounces back and shows he's pretty much back for the first time, he should handily, thoroughly beat the **** out of cotto for as long as it lasts.

and if he in't the same fighter, all that says it's a closer fight, and if he loses, cotto deserves all the credit in the world.

Cotto isn't going to come at Martinez like a bull like he did against Rodriguez. That jab is going to be in Sergio's face from the first bell. Cotto should make Sergio come at him. Macklin showed that Sergio is uncomfortable at forcing the fight in the early rounds and has a predictable attack. Cotto isn't as big as Macklin, but he's got 2X the skills Mack The Knife does. If Sergio is healthy and ready for war, this still isn't a walk in a park. Not by a long shot.

Martinez has had several knee surgeries, he looked like crap against Murray. 50/50 fight IMO

I think that fight is too easy for Martinez. I would much rather see him fight Golovkin.

I think the first couple of rounds will be competitive. Then Martinez lets his hands down and gets in a zone. Landing that sweet shot he landed on P will on Cotto.
