  • Does anyone actually think Cotto vs Martinez is competetive?

    Why?

I mean for one thing Cotto is going to be way too small, Martinez is a natural middleweight, Cotto is small at jr middle.

And this isn't a scenario where Cotto is going to be smaller and more agile. Martinez is faster, has better balance and movement, hit's harder, has better punch resistance.

In my mind, this fight is a mismatch and I don't know why Cotto is taking it.

Sure Martinez is a bit older now, but that's not going to be nearly enough for Cotto to win. He will be outboxed bad for 3-4 rounds and I see Martinez taking him out somewhere around the 5th or 6th

Cotto is a stalky guy. Obviously not a full fledged MW but I think he'll wear the weight well. Also, he looked good in his last fight. He and Roach seem to work well with one another. Add to that Sergio looked old in his last fight, was hurt badly in the fight before that, is coming off of multiple injuries and layoffs, and is going to be 39 come fight night, it makes things interesting.

Watch the early rounds to Martinez-Macklin where Macklin played a bit of a cat and mouse game, I don't think Martinez is as good of an aggressor as many believe, add to the fact that Martinez doesn't have the same legs and I'm looking at a very winnable fight for Cotto. No one thinks Cotto is gonna have to get physical, all he has to is attack in spots and keep it moving. Martinez's offense gets very predictable when he's made to come forward, Cotto should win at this stage. Only thing I'm really worried about is whether Cotto's conditioning will allow him to utilize this game plan for 12 rounds, if he tires Martinez may end up stopping him.

I think you guys are mental, maybe i'm just not seeing it.

I really don't think Cotto has anything for Martinez, it's always this way with him.

He fights some average C level guy, smashes him up, everyone says cotto's back, he's got a whole new gameplan etc, then he gets in with an elite and loses, usually badly, then it happens all over again.

        we'll see

Cotto doesn't stand a chance. He gets brutally beaten and retired.

No doubt there will be another excuse, it's usually the trainer's fault. 2 or 3 years down the line his fan club will have him winning the fight.

I think Martinez might win a few rounds, but he'll eventually fold under Cotto's pressure.

usually doesn't end well to pressure a guy bigger, stronger and harder hitting than you

Only El Angel thinks Cotto will win. El Angel also thinks Cotto will then beat GGG, Ward, Kovalev and Stevenson (in that order) and hold the RING belt in 3 divisions simultaneously.

It could be a disaster for Team Cotto and coach Roach. There's glory in it if they succeed but the downside could be crushing. I expect Cotto to lose by way of outgunning.
