A top fighter to me is a guy who can who get a belt by beating a top 5 guy and subsequently hold on to that belt by beating the other top 5 guys. Its the difference between a "contender" and a "top fighter".

Well, Cotto doesn't need Martinez first of all. I can agree somewhat with you, but the fact of the matter remains that Cotto is the draw and the money maker. That's just how boxing is these days. The man who brings in the money calls the shots.

cottos name headlining it in nyc MSG is a better marketing strategy. Although cotto is the challenger he's also the A - side to this match up.

He also is the 3/4th highest money maker (ppv wise)
