I think it will sell. I went to Barthelemy/Usmanee at a different casino and it was a decent turnout (for a FNF card of course). And the crowd is very knowledgeable. They went crazy when they saw Gamboa ring side. It's been brought up before. I think that BS article from "El Nuevo Herald" originally mentioned that venue for the Agbeko fight. As it turns out, it would've been the place for that fight. People would've been cheering Rigo, instead of walking out on him like they did in AC.
They need to test this market with popular Cuban fighters. I think they can get 2,000-3,000 and pack a small casino like that.Comment

He's right about needing the fans and press to push it , thats the only reason I think rigo got the Donaire fight. It was the pressure from the blogs and the press ,w/o that he woulda just skated to 126 lb.Comment

In the article the manager is asking for the media to push for his next fight in march.BoxingScene.com caught up with WBO/WBA super bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8KOs) and his co-manager/advisor Alex Bornote shortly after he pitched a 12 round shutout against former champion Joseph Agbeko. Bornote said that he wants his fighter to return to the ring in the first quarter of 2014.

a sorry state of affairs when the manager has to ask the media to help create demand.
Really rigondeaux should be creating the demand himself by being more exciting in the ring. He had the fight won from the first round. Why not step it up and go for the KO? He has so much abillity but doesn't risk using it all.Comment

I never understood why Top Rank and HBO always went around saying Rigo can't draw and has no fans when they never bothered to attempt to build a fan base in his home state.Comment

TBH I think Rigo's rep took an even bigger hit this time around. I hope the people in Florida didn't watch the Agbeko fight cause the turn out might not be as good as we expect. It is what it is.Originally posted by RockyIVQuote:

Rigo's been on at least one Spanish-language variety program. I've seen the footage and he acquitted himself well. He attended the opening of the Hialeah Casino that was mentioned earlier and was brought on-stage and introduced to the crowd by Willie Chirino, a popular Cuban salsa singer. Guillermo's very adept at rapping in Spanish, freestyling on a few Youtube videos. He's got some talent, and some personality.quick witted? I guess I've missed that part of him,i hardly see interviews of him,if he's going to fight in Miami, his hometown then he really should get out there and promote that fight, get on Univision, espn deportes a los golpes,go to fights and be seen..or who knows, maybe he doesn't care about the fame and just wants to be another chris john,i really think if he left top rank and went to goldenboy they would do more for him
Rigo's biggest obstacles to marketability, apart from his fighting style, are his size and his looks. The man is tiny and homely. As fight fans, we might not care what the guy looks like; but anyone that thinks physical appearance isn't a major factor in promotion is either naive or crazy.Comment

I've said this before: If they put a couple of other Cuban fighters like Gamboa and Santana on the card, along with a few other guys from different Latin American countries, they can fill a decent venue. I think they can do 6,000 people. The line-up has to be right and the promotion has to be right.I think it will sell. I went to Barthelemy/Usmanee at a different casino and it was a decent turnout (for a FNF card of course). And the crowd is very knowledgeable. They went crazy when they saw Gamboa ring side.
