Angulo did the same thing. Angulo tried to ko Kirkland early and then had to withstand Kirklands pressure and power once he was tired and didn't take Kirkland out.

watching the fight right now, brutality. Tapia is a punching bag in round 4.

Those uppercuts to the solar plexus are sickening.

The long layoff I get but people expecting Kirkland to lose what? This was a tune up fight for Kirkland plain and simple. A kid who is very young in the sport, hasn't faced any high caliber opponent, hasn't fought on a major network, and has a style suited for Kirkland - has all the ingredients of a tune up fight.

Beautiful fight last night. From Kirklands suffocating wild toro style, to Tapia's heart, to Ann Wolfe's screaming in the corner guerrilla rambo style... It was such a real war... My type of fight. Ended up with a new level of respect for both. This fight is what the fighting spirit looks like, true warriors.

From now on, Kirkland's future opponents need to understand that you can't try to finish this man in the first round.

You have to let him unload in the first few rounds, box him and keep it in the center of the ring. Your jab is your best friend in the early stages. But of course that is easier said than done!

That last shot was disgraceful from Kirkland. He knew exactly what smoger was doing when he went to break them, he was stopping the fight and Kirkland still threw that big shot on the defenseless Tapia. What a coward. His split was a good move. This bum can know fight cans on HBO instead of getting his ass handed to him by anyone else at 154.

I think all true boxing fans has the fight 50/50. Only the ones that get caught up in the moment, like yourself with kirkland, thought Matthysse would win. I'll be honest, I thought the fight would win by KO Garcia myself, But Garcia got the win nonetheless. Still, Kirkland has no chance vs the elite 154 pounder, point blank period!

Of course he did. Here i'll simplify the point im trying to make, Tapia wasnt in the right type of condition thats needed to go against kirkland.
