Comments Thread For: Stevenson, Kovalev Deliver Knockout Ratings For HBO

Not only were light heavyweight knockout artists Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev each a smash hit in the ring, but their performances came in front of their largest respective audiences to date.

Thanksgiving weekend has traditionally proven to be a death sentence for boxing events, but this past weekend in Quebec was widely successful for the A-side of the promotion as well as hosting network HBO. The main event for Saturday’s doubleheader at Colisée de Quebec—which saw Stevenson register his second title defense with a 6th round stoppage of England’s Tony Bellew—drew 1.305 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Good for them. Putting the Pacquiao fight before it definitely helped the numbers some imo.

It probably did, but the fact that viewership increased as the broadcast went on is a positive sign for both fighters - especially since they didn't step foot into the ring until about 11:10PM ET and 11:30PM ET, respectively.

Yea that's true. Both guys are must see tv in my eyes. We all know that they're going for the KO and it's very likely that they get it in brutal fashion. Kovalev and Stevenson have given new life to the division.

Boxing fans have always and will always go for knockout punchers. Stevenson and Kovalev are undoubtedly knockout punchers.

Stevenson and Kovalev are 2 leading contenders for FOTY so its not surprising they did such good numbers, especially with the Manny replay before it.

We all know that k.o. Boxers are what the casual fans are salivating for. Casuals are more blood ghouls than the hard cores. Good thing for hbo, spending less in cash getting more viewership

Funny how many on here said HBO didn't want the Klits and they didn't get good ratings because they were EE. I think Kovalov and Golovkin have put that ridiculous myth to bed.
