  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren: Groves Impressive, Froch Was Exposed

Britain’s fabulous record in the 168lb super-middleweight division seems destined to enjoy several future chapters given the strength of George Groves’ brilliant challenge to IBF and WBA champion Carl Froch last weekend.

Since inauguration in 1984, these isles have already delivered eight world champions at 12 stone and the ‘Saint’ from Hammersmith could become the ninth.

Despite his premature eviction in round nine of a fabulous and truly torrid battle, the 25 year old proved he has the technique, temperament and firepower to flourish on the highest stage. [Click Here To Read More]

Warren is right that Froch is not an ATG. Groves had his number too.

Not that I don't agree with what Warren has said about Froch-Groves, but I find it kind of ironic how he feels that was a premature stoppage and then goes on to give credit to Chisora for beating Scott when it was clear that he was up before ten when the incompetent ref waived off that fight. It was plain and clear that Scott was unhurt and waiting until the count of 8 to gather himself before springing back onto his feet. This is commonly done in boxing.

Of course Froch isn't a "true great" or an ATG. But he's up there with Britain's best.

Groves didn't show us anything we didn't already know about Froch, he didn't expose anything.

We know Froch is easy to hit and not very technical and has a lot of flaws.

We also know he makes up for that with his chin, toughness, stamina, heart and sheer will to win. And looked on his way to turning it round with these abilities.

Warren has always had this defensive view on Froch since he tried to get Calzaghe in the ring with him in 2008 and when he wouldn't went on to insult him in the press.

Now they have comparable resume's, and the comparisons have formed on who's the greater of the two he has taken it to the next level.

Froch may well have gotten rid of him anyway
but he was behind and didn't look so hot
wouldn't say Froch was exposed, just somewhat shown up by Groves
he's always been easy to hit and sloppy with his shots
seeing him hurt and down was a surprise though
Froch's shying away from a rematch since his ego got bruised
Groves is on the map now with or without a rematch
they need to do it though, screw the indecisiveness

Surely Calzaghe is greater than Froch.

The Scott and Groves stoppages are not comparable. Scott had himself to blame for staying on his knees until 9, which made up the referees mind.

Groves however was robbed because the referee intervened the first time he took a few shots in succession, even though he was clearly still trying to defend himself.

I completely agree with Frank about the Groves-Froch spectacle but also about Bellew playing his mouth saying before every fight that he'd knock his opponent out and failing to deliver. The same could be said about Froch, his only recent KO, TKO were against a hyped Bute and Mack in his last 9 fights (excluding that BS stoppage against Groves).

The Scott stoppage also shows how bad our referees are in the UK.

                  Surely it's debatable.

Calzaghe beats everyone on Froch's resume, and beats Froch too. Too skilled, slick and fast.
