I never understood why people hate on roach so much. Of you're an offensive fighter like cotto and manny are, roach is the best trainer for you. Sure he doesn't care about defense much lol, but he will bring out the best of you on the offensI've side. Taka Khan for intance, his best fights came under roach. U can say anything you want about paulie M or Judah, but no one has outboxed them and dominated them like Khan did. Not even Floyd. Sure he lost two fights under him but one he was robbed and the other he was dominating until he got caught with a lucky punch, can't blame no chin on roach. His two fights since leaving roach have been lackluster at best. No doubt in my mind that a trained cotto will give canelo more trouble than any other fighter at 154 right now....well I take that back..Lara would beat that ass lol

offense aint crap if you can't defend. one punch is all it takes to end a fight. you can be countered on offense.but no way it happens if you defend. the best way to counter is off a defensive move. somebody is left wide open(roach trained fighters) then its over. khans beat downs while with roach was the main reason that he left and pacquiao getting sent to the moon while under roach via marquez. and as soon as cotto gets in there with alvarez or martinez. the beating will happen.roach can't teach crap. i like cotto. but i absolutely don't trust roach.

He's already learned his lesson about taking "pride fights" instead of money fights when he fought Trout. He's not doing this again. He's fighting Canelo. It's stylistically a better match up for him and much more money.

The fight is too soon. I dont think that Miguel could be ready. Not with the holidays break, how about promotion tour? It will leave <8 weeks of actual training. If they move the fight to mid April that will work much better allowing for a Sep date for Cotto to fight Floyd (after he crushes Canelo).

If Canelo is still a huge hype job (which at one point he was....but the potential has undoubtedly began to materialize) what does that make Cotto considering Canelo beat the very same guy who easily beat Cotto?

Simple equation for those who can see more than one move ahead. If you belittle Canelo you indirectly belittle Trout. If we belittle Trout, the same fighter who made Cotto like rather plain, than by default Cotto was giving a boxing lesson by a fighter who isn't even a good fighter from jump. Now styles make fights, understood. But a 'hall of fame' boxer should never lose easily to guy who couldn't even beat a 'hype job.'

It's kind of like yelling 'overrated' once you've beaten a top ranked team....it has more of an impact on your accomplishment, or lack of, than it does that of your opponent.

At this point both guys beat Cotto....when is the last time Cotto beat a Champion of real meritt? You have to go back a long time.

The funny thing is, I think Cotto may now have a better chance against Martinez, a year ago I would have slapped myself for saying this (Pro Cotto's will use this line for an unoriginal reply towards me)...but one man seems to be rising while the other seems to be declining.

btw,Freddie Roach means little....defense is not his forte...unless he can do what no other trainer has been able to do...which is to get Cotto to tighten his elbow base when he goes to that pick-a-boo defense of his....Canelo will pepper him with uppercuts that will ultimately take it's toll in his face and will.

Cotto is just a name on the resume of the real players at this point....but I have no problem with Cotto using his name to cash out on a couple of fights before his final curtain call. He's had a good career and he's earned it. So go lose/get pain against Canelo and Martinez, than let your promotion team find a good winable matchup against a decent name on the Island so that your countrymen can deify you over the next 20 years.

everybody knows that trout beat alvarez. and that judge that only gave trout 2 rounds was straight up paid off. just because i'm mexican does not mean that i'm going to side with alvarez. i'm a boxing fan and love the sport. my race does'nt have anything to do with whom are the combatents.
