Was Jeff Lacy ever really that good?

Did he accomplish anything to deserve the hype some people were giving him?

He was a big puncher. Fans and networks love the knock out. So yes he was hyped up. He wasn't known for his boxing skills. He was known for knocking dudes out plain and simple.

Lacy won a vacant belt, defended it against a few over the hill former champs and journeymen, then got a beat-down from his first legit opponent. So no, Lacy was pretty average with good power.

Both of these. He could punch but that was about it. If a shot Roy Jones stops you, there's really nothing more to say.

Haha I thought he would at least put Jones to the sword. I was actually shocked when old man Jones beat him down. That was the last straw lol.

Would he have had a better career if not for the shoulder injury?

                  No he's always been terrible.

That was clear to see before the Calzaghe fight.

You wouldn't believe the newspaper articles here in Florida when the Calzaghe fight was made. Lacy was from the Tampa Bay area, where I live, and sports writers were calling him the super middleweight Joe Frazier and uniformly picking him to knock Calzaghe out. He was basically an ATG in their eyes.

Thankfully, we still had Winky Wright and Antonio Tarver afterwards.
