Berto was a better fighter but the similarities are there.

Do you care to answer the actual question? Do you believe that Jeff Lacy really was good?

He had/has a lot of power. They saw this man's incredible physique and his knockout ability and went nuts. He was average at best.

I wasn't around Boxing Scene when he faced Clazaghe but someone bumped the thread not so long ago and Lacy was massively hyped on that. By fans and experts a-like it seemed.

Watching his fights with the likes of Manfredo Jr and Jones Jr were painfull affairs.

he always got outboxed by guys like syd vanderpool, rubin williams, omar sheika, and donnel wiggnis. he was able to score some come from behind stoppages which were sometimes dubious but yea he ******. he "knocked down" robin reid with about 6 rabbit punches. shows you how unskilled lacy really was. i'm surprised calzaghe took so many punches and clinched so much against someone of such low caliber. kinda reveals calzaghe's real level.

That shoulder injury was absolutely horrific. He was limited, but powerful, as people have stated already. He had some potential and was a pretty good natural athlete. But once he lost that left hook, he had absolutely nothing to offer. Even his balls, which were huge and could pull him through any ordeal (again, consider that he fought 3/4 of that Tyspko bout with his shoulder basically detached from his body), evaporated after he ruined his shoulder.

Something tells me we'll be having this same conversation about Wilder when he steps up too.

                      This^^^

I still have problems understanding why he was so highly regarded. Never been so happy to see a fighter get whooped then when Calzaghe put it on him. If you watch the fight in slow motion, with the commentary off and nothing but black lights on in your room, you can see the exact moment Lacy's soul leaves his body while Calzaghe whoops him.
