SHO subscribers up to 23mill, HBO drops to 28.7mill

If these is a reliable source, the gap is closing and the battle between these two networks giants should increase in the coming years.

Showtime increased from 14mill to 23mill meanwhile HBO drops from 32mill to 28.7mill. What are you guys is thoughts?

For years now, HBO has maintained its edge as the premier distributor of top-flight boxing programming in the United States...

They're probably counting the subscriptions from the Mayweather fight. You got 3 months of showtime for free if you ordered the PPV.

    That's how I got showtime.

3 months free thats is nice, I always see HBO doing free weekends especially around a good fight and always thought to myself why don't SHO do it for the weekends that they had Canelo vs Trout, Cotto vs Trout and Adrien Broner, I am sure the rating would go bigger for these fights but I am no business man so don't know the down side of doing it, btw i mean for them to do it once on awhile not all the time they have big names fighting.

HBO's production still just levels above Showtime's. All their **** -- their PPVs, their fights, their weak ass all-access, I mean it's just not in the same zip code as the HBO production. It comes off weak. 24/7 is so well done it's ridiculous. Even this last PPV which had the lamest undercard ever, it was still a great production from top to bottom. Even that damn intro into the fight (talking about Pac's redemption and Bam Bam's ambition) was pure awesomeness. Their **** comes off professional while Showtime sometimes just comes off cheesy as f**k.

It's a damn shame; I wish we could just end these childish beefs and bring ALL the fighters to HBO. I will admit though Showtime now has the more entertaining roster of fighters.

your right about most of the things you said about production, i felt the same way but SHO is really trying to upgrade it's production during fight which is getting better or is better then how it was years ago, HBO is on top in that department but are falling quickly, there last few fights the production wasn't there like it used to in the past however for there ppc they seem to keep the great production. I wished that too but after the fights we gotten and SHO trying to get better is been good for all of us. also HBO press conferences for Ward and GGG seem to have been in a small room not like they were before.

SHO's number will soon drop when subscribers begin to notice the rarity of the fights, that is if boxing was the main purpose of the subscription. About one fight a month, which translates to only 12 Saturdays out of 52 a year. That means a lot of waiting for fights.

HBO has given us 8 straight weeks of boxing, I don't remember the last Showtime boxing card. HBO is still king.

Boxing is just a bonus for HBO subscribers. Their main attraction is their regular programming.

This is hack journalism, no wonder it's on bleacherreport. Here's from a NYT 18 months ago

"Showtime has improved its subscriber base to 21.3 million from 13.8 million in 2005, according to the media analysis firm SNL Kagan. Over the same period, HBO has held relatively steady at 28 million to 29 million."

So at most they gained less than 2m with HBO standing pat, but you wouldn't know it by their boxing ratings where HBO dominates. The Forbes article referenced was from 2/2013, well before the Guerrero fight.
