edit: Would a Roach trained Rios do any better? I don't think so, Rios just hasn't got what's needed to compete with someone like Pacquiao.
IMO Roach would add some angles and footwork. Plus Roach would get appropriate sparring. Garcia's gym often get guys from Goosen i.e a south paw but I have never seen any quality guys come in that emulates the opponent.

They have decent sparring there from the stable, but at this level you need to be 100%. For example Robert said use a jab after a high guard, and when he throws you throw. There was no talk to cutting the ring with footwork to a direction etc...

Rios is a guy who Garcia has more than 10 weeks with as well. It's not like Roach and Chavez or Robert and Donaire Rigo. Heck Donaire had a full gym for Vic and looked worse than ever.

Robert is a bum, I had faith in Maidana beating Broner, but it's clear his only game plan is to hustle a fighter but only on workrate, no technique.

Doesn't ever seem to have a back-up gameplan when the first one doesn't work. He's not as great as some would have you believe.

exactly, he said jab, guard up and throw after each round, rios clearly couldnt jab his way in so had to change the damn plan not keep telling him the same ****

Probably not load up as he did VS Rigo and actually use his speed and athleticism for angles and touching

You need the right fighter with the tools to fight at an elite level. Roger and Big Floyd both look like great trainers when they are in Jr's corner. Aside from Oscar and maybe Micky Bey who else has either trainer really trained? And like I said before Oscar and Micky have real boxing skill and tools that you can go into the gym and build around.

With Marg and Rios. Dont pretend like they are on Pacs level and Roach was the difference. Pac is just that good and they simply are not.

Anyway, Garcia is a good trainer... Cant call him overrated for his fighters losing to amazing fighters (Donaire and Bam bam) and Donaire was NOT stepping up, it was Rigo stepping up who just happens to be amazing. You talk about Rios and Marg losing to Alvarado and Cotto but are 1-1 of two fights lol. Pac was coming off a brutal KO loss and a "loss" to Bradley. Kahn was getting beat down while with Roach and Chavez Jr was utterly dominated. Lets not forget Linares, and Prov losing to Bradley. Bottom line is, they're both good trainers and Roach happens to have Pac whos one of the best to ever do it.

Garcia has Mikey who's a stud and will be dominating for years to come (Donaire too once he gets his ish together).... Garcia right now IMO has more to look forward to as a much younger trainer. Once Pac's done Roach doesnt have a ton of star potential in his stable. Does that mean Garcia is the better trainer? No. We all know having a star in the stable can do big things for a trainer and Garcia has a huge upside considering his age and what hes done so far.

Props to both as trainers. I'd kill to have either train me if i was a pro boxer.

                    overrated?

rios has gone extremely far with his limits.

garcia is one of the planet's best trainers, and he runs one of hte planet's best gyms.
