G T F O H..Disrespect from his promoter? Arum put a cool million in Rigo's pocket, Rigo was coming off earning on average 40k a year as a pro boxer and instantly was made a millionaire. Why doesn't this same fighter and his manager tell the public what the other offers were because they clearly weren't better. You know the pattern i'm noticing about all of this when it comes to Rigo is that if he says I want this and they get him that he's somehow being disrespected. It's almost automatic. Your promoter says I need this from you because i'm having issues getting you the money you deserve from the network and you say no, then don't b*tch about it. Oh but let me guess what's going to happen at the end of these two fights he's gonna take his belt and run to GBP and then in about a year start the complaining again.

I agree with the sentiment in this thread. It's not that he needs to be paid more either, just treated better. To have your promoter publicly tell you that you need to fight a different way, when you're 12-0 yet ranked on everyone's top 10 p4p list? That's insane.

To have HBO say they aren't interested in bringing you back? Are you kidding? Andre Berto headlined a card earlier this year. You don't need to put Rigo on a huge PPV card, hell you could even co-feature him on a big fight too... but to say you're not interested in one of the top 10? That's also nuts.

HBO and Top Rank (Arum specifically) have treated this guy like he's some clutching top 20 contender in his division, not the superstar of the lower weight classes and easily top 10 p4p fighter out there. Unreal. Just because his star is taking a little bit longer to grow than most and his style isn't GGG-tastic, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve top respect.

The promoters job is to praise his fighters and promote them, not use the media to make them look like $h1t just because he embarrased your next star, if he wants something from Rigondeaux just call him, I'm sure he knows where he lives and has his cell #, the one acting like a b1tch is arum saying all that $h1t to anyone that want it to listen, he knew who GR was before giving him a contract, there's a figure on that contract that arum didn't want to pay, if a matter of fact one big issue on GR contract was that one of the fight have to be against nonito...

he gets respect from hardcore followers, but in the end, hbo is about ratings. and in boxing especially, ratings is what keeps certain fighters being brought back. period end of story

These people have badly embarrassed themselves with their treatment of Rigo. Arum in particular has embarrassed himself almost as much as he did when he fixed Pacquiao/Bradley. Almost.

Man people kill me with this whole, "their mad because he beat Donaire" or "Rigo must up their plans". That has nothing to do with it, for the simple fact that HBO were the ones pushing for the fight against Donaire. Why would HBO be upset with Rigo? If anything, they wanted to make Rigo a star. Why would they have to promote Donaire whose on everyone's lb for lb list? Let's be honest, beyond the boxing purest and fans, the casual fan thought Rigo stunk up the joint against Donaire. Yes, we saw a great boxer perform like never before, but the casual fan, which just happens to be the larger % of viewers, saw a fighter who didn't want to necessarily engage. HBO lost viewers because of that fight. And he's not the only Cuban boxer who isn't considered a fan favorite. Lara doens't get any recognition outside of the BOXING FAN, hell Casamayor during his prime was a great boxer, but he himself didn't get any recognition until he was forced to fight, ex: vs. Katsidis and vs Corrales. The casual fan doesn't want to see a guy stick and move. Hell, I'm a boxing fan and former amatuer and hell I don't want to see a guy move around too much during a fight. The biggest name in boxing, Floyd Mayweather wasn't all that entertaining until recently, since he's decided to actually stand his ground a little bit more these days. How is TR going to promote a fighter that no one wants to see? Timothy Bradley is a prime example. He'll probably never get another PPV in his life, for the fact that he's not that well known outside of the boxing community. These guys are going to have to excite the network and the casual fan, otherwise they'll continue to be looked at as boring fighters. That doesn't mean they need to go out and slug with their opponent, but they'll need to do something to appease to the casual boxing fan. Floyd became a villan, Tyson was a destroyer, Hopkins was an *******. Those are just a few examples.

So sit back, keep the extra distance, and just paw the entire fight, block and throw little jabs to make it look like a fight.
That's the way I feel, maybe purists like Rigo's style, but he's too clinical for me.

No, that is not true. People weren't complaining because ginger had to drop 2 lbs, people were upset at the utter hypocrisy of Floyd Mayweather saying that Pacquiao was a cheat for making Cotto drop 2 lbs, while he was doing the same thing to Alvarez.

                      Somehow people never got that.
